Seahawks vs. Commanders SNF Point Spread: NFL Week 9 Odds, Prediction
The Seahawks are -3.5 on the NFL odds with a total of 45.5.
Sunday Night Football Point Spread and Betting Analysis
There are a few ways to get a very good quarterback in the NFL. The main way is drafting one fairly high in the first round of the draft, although we all remember that GOAT Tom Brady was a sixth-round pick. Washington appears to have found its superstar under centre in second-year Jayden Daniels, the 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. But he missed the Monday night game in Kansas City with a hamstring injury, so it’s pretty tough to handicap this matchup not knowing if he’s back. There is optimism, so I will just assume yes even if the odds are saying the books are leaning no.
Meanwhile, Seattle used a trade and free agency to get its 2025 starter in Sam Darnold as the team traded Geno Smith, the starter for the Seahawks from 2022-24, to Las Vegas in the off-season. And Smith is massively struggling there. Darnold had a breakout 2024 season in Minnesota, but the market wasn’t overly robust for him as many thought that was a fluke considering Darnold had been considered bust until then. But maybe he has turned his career around for good.
This matchup might have some NFC playoff implications, although it’s not looking so good for Washington to get back to the post-season at this point. It’s the first-ever game between these franchises on Sunday night. The Commanders have a 13-7 overall regular-season record (Seattle leads 3-0 in the playoffs, though) in the series and 6-5 mark at home.
Washington is 4-1 ATS in the past five meetings, and the under is 4-1 in those.
Seattle Seahawks
Seattle used to be one of the toughest place to win in the NFL, but both Seahawks losses are at home, while they have won a team-record nine straight road games. The streak began in Week 7 of the 2024 season and the team is now 10-1 on the road under coach Mike Macdonald. The Seahawks, tied for first in the NFC West, are off their bye so they should be pretty healthy. The secondary had really been banged up but should see the return of cornerback Devon Witherspoon and safety Julian Love. Outside linebacker Derick Hall also might be back. In Seattle’s last game, a 27-19 home win over Houston on Oct. 20, wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught eight passes for 123 yards receiving to set a team record with his third straight game with at least 100 yards and a receiving TD. JSN has five 100-yard games this season and needs just one more to tie Hall of Famer Steve Largent (1979) for the most 100-yard games in a season in franchise history.
If there’s one nitpick with the Seahawks, their rushing attack is 30th in yards-per-carry average (3.7). A year ago, in Macdonald’s first season as head coach, the Seahawks went into their bye with a 4-5 record having lost five of six games. So things are much better regardless this time around. Seattle is 5-1 ATS in its past six.
Washington Commanders
The Commanders weren’t expected to fare well on Monday night in Kansas City starting backup Marcus Mariota at QB for a third time this season, and while he played pretty well overall and it was competitive for a half, the Chiefs rolled 28-7. To make matters worse, No. 1 receiver Terry McLaurin, who has missed plenty of time already this year, injured his quad and Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil left with a hamstring issue. Acquired via trade from Houston in the off-season, Tunsil has been Washington’s best offensive lineman and was replaced by second-year player Brandon Coleman on Monday. Coleman opened the season as the starting left guard but was benched after Week 2. He did start 12 games at left tackle in 2024.
Nine key players have already missed at least four games this season, and it seems many involve hamstrings like with QB Jayden Daniels currently. Washington is 5-1 ATS in its past six at home. It has a 20-19-1 overall SU record on Sunday Night Football, while head coach Dan Quinn is 3-1 on SNF dating to his Atlanta days.
