Saints QB1

New Orleans is the last team to name a starting quarterback this season after a pre-season battle between Rattler and Tyler Shough. The 24-year-old Rattler was a fifth-round draft pick in 2024, while 25-year-old Shough was drafted in the second round this year, 40th overall.

Third-year quarterback Jake Haener was also in the running early in training camp, but Rattler and Shough quickly pulled ahead by the start of the pre-season.

Rattler started six games last season and played in seven to fill in for an injured Derek Carr. He went 0-6 in those starts and finished the year with a 57 per cent completion rate while throwing for 1,317 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions.

Carr was expected to be the starter this season, but he ultimately retired in May due to a shoulder injury.
