Report: Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice suspended six games

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been suspended six games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy and will begin the suspension at the start of the regular season.

Let’s see how this suspension could impact Chiefs futures this season.

Rashee Rice

Rice will be eligible to return Week 7 when Kansas City hosts the Raiders. Highlights of the games he’ll miss include a divisional matchup against the Chargers in Week 1, a Super Bowl rematch against the Eagles in Week 2 and marquee games against Super Bowl contenders Baltimore in Week 4 and Detroit in Week 6.

Rice was sentenced to 30 days in jail in July and five years’ probation for his part in a multi-vehicle car crash in the 2024 off-season in Dallas.

A second-round draft pick out of SMU in 2023, Rice finished his rookie season with 79 receptions for 928 yards and seven touchdowns while helping the Chiefs win Super Bowl 58. Rice had 28 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in four games last season before his year ended due to a torn LCL in his right knee.

Kansas City receivers

KC kept eight wide receivers when they announced their final 53-man roster on Tuesday: Rice, Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Tyquan Thornton, Nikko Remigio, Jason Brownlee and rookie Jalen Royals.

Don’t expect Rice’s absence to impact the Chiefs’ win total, which is set at 11.5. Rice was gone almost all of last year and Kansas City still made a run to the Super Bowl.

Travis Kelce led the team in the regular season last year with 823 receiving yards, recording 38 more receptions than anyone else on the team. However, I think it’s a passing-of-the-guard this year. Worthy led KC in last year’s playoffs in receptions (19), targets (21) and receiving yards (287), while finishing as the only player on the team with multiple receiving touchdowns (three).
