Ravens vs. Chargers Recap: Lamar Grounds Chargers in Prime-Time Thriller
With Derrick Henry leading the ground attack and Lamar Jackson making some clutch plays, the Ravens rallied from an early deficit to earn the W. Here’s a quarter-by-quarter breakdown.
First Quarter
The Chargers came out of the gates hot, scoring on their first drive. Justin Herbert capped off an efficient opening possession with a 5-yard touchdown run, putting Los Angeles up 7-0. The Ravens struggled to get much going offensively, and the Chargers added a 42-yard Cameron Dicker field goal to extend their lead to 10-0 by the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter
Baltimore began to find its rhythm in the second quarter, thanks to a heavy dose of Derrick Henry. The big back ripped off several big runs to set up Lamar Jackson’s 10-yard rushing touchdown, cutting the Chargers’ lead to 10-7. With time winding down in the half, Jackson connected with Rashod Bateman for a 40-yard touchdown strike to give Baltimore a 14-10 lead. The Chargers managed a 52-yard field goal from Dicker as time expired, making it 14-13 at halftime.
Third Quarter
The Ravens came out of the break looking to build on their momentum, and they did just that with a 45-yard Justin Tucker field goal to push the lead to 17-13. The Chargers responded with another long field goal from Dicker, cutting the deficit to 17-16. The Ravens’ defence then stepped up, keeping Los Angeles from finding the end zone while Baltimore maintained its narrow lead.
Fourth Quarter
Baltimore took control in the final quarter. Lamar Jackson found Mark Andrews for a 6-yard touchdown pass early in the quarter, although the Ravens missed the two-point conversion, making it 23-16. Later, Justice Hill broke free for a 51-yard touchdown run, putting the Ravens firmly in control at 30-16. The Chargers added a late score with a Gus Edwards 1-yard run, but it was too little, too late as Baltimore held on for a 30-23 victory.
Jackson finished 16-of-22 for 177 yards and two touchdowns, adding another score on the ground. Despite a slow start, Jackson came alive in the second quarter to lead Baltimore’s comeback.
Ravens vs. Chargers Betting Recap
The Ravens entered as 3-point favourites (-3, -105) and managed to cover the spread with their 7-point victory. The total points line was set at 51, and with a final score of 30-23, the over comfortably hit. Bettors who backed Baltimore’s moneyline (-160) and the over were rewarded in a game that delivered plenty of drama. The aggressive play-calling from John Harbaugh, particularly on fourth down, paid off and was a key factor in the Ravens maintaining control late in the game.
