Chicago Bears v St Louis Rams

Do you dig low-scoring Thursday night battles? Then this is the game for you! Defense will be the order of the night as the Los Angeles Rams visit the San Francisco 49ers in an NFC West showdown. NFL odds are giving the Rams a slight edge in this one, even though they’re coming off a tough home loss to the Washington Redskins. The 49ers are reeling after dropping a 12-9 decision in Seattle in a game they led midway through the fourth quarter.

Thursday Night Football Week 3: Rams vs. 49ers

Point spread: 49ers +2.5

Date: Thursday, September 21, 8:25 p.m. ET

Levi’s Stadium, San Francisco, CA

Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Recent history favors the Niners in this one, as they’ve won three straight meetings and covered in six of their last eight encounters. But that hasn’t done anything to sway the Sports Interaction betting public, which is a whopping 91 percent behind the Rams -2.5 as of Tuesday morning. Perhaps people have noticed that the Rams are averaging 33 points per game – third-best in the NFL – while San Francisco has just 12 total points through two games.

On the over/under front, more people believe in the 49ers’ anemic offense than the Rams’ unexpected offensive explosion. An overwhelming 78 percent of NFL bettors are rolling with under 40; the last four meetings between the teams in San Francisco have all gone under. If you’re feeling particularly brave, you can roll with under 36 points at +143; couple the way these teams play each other with the fact the game is on a Thursday, and it’s not a bad bet.

Los Angeles Rams

The biggest key to the Rams’ sudden offensive firepower is third-year running back Todd Gurley, who has added passing game chops to his up-and-down rushing contributions. Gurley leads the team in receptions (eight) and ranks second in targets (10), after finishing with 21 receptions as a rookie and 43 in his second season. If he continues to develop into a two-way threat, the Rams’ offense will take a significant step forward.

San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco counterpart Carlos Hyde isn’t just a major part of the 49ers’ offensive approach – he has been the whole show so far. Hyde’s 220 total yards through two games represent nearly 44 percent of the team’s entire yardage total – both a testament to Hyde’s resurgence and an indictment of the rest of the 49ers offense. That said, San Francisco has dominated the ground game, averaging 6.2 YPC while allowing just 3.3 YPC to its opponents.

Rams vs. 49ers Prediction
