Popular NFL Picks Week 1: Public Likes Philadelphia Eagles vs. Browns
All four of this week’s most popular bets happen to be favoured visiting teams.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Indianapolis Colts
A whopping 88 per cent of Sports Interaction’s action is backing the Jaguars to cover as 5-point favourites in Indianapolis on Sunday. This line opened at -3.5 last month and has been climbing ever since. This is a tough spot for Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson, who will be without star running back Jonathan Taylor (PUP list). Meanwhile, Jags QB Trevor Lawrence is fresh off his first Pro Bowl nod and looks to take this team back to the playoffs.
Philadelphia Eagles at New England Patriots
The Eagles check in just behind Jacksonville with 86 per cent of the action as they visit Foxboro as 4-point favourites. Philadelphia, which sits atop the NFC futures board at +280, opened at -5 early last month. As for New England, 0dds suggest it might be a long season for the Patriots. Their season win total is 7.5 and they’re at -343 to miss the playoffs.
Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns
Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow says he’s good to go after babying a calf strain in the pre-season, which is music to bettors’ ears. The Bengals are seeing 77 per cent of the betting action as they visit the Dawg Pound 2.5-point favourites and they’re also favoured to win the AFC North at +140. Cleveland checks in third in the divisional odds at +401.
San Francisco 49ers at Pittsburgh Steelers
In a battle between two emerging quarterbacks, bettors are siding with Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers, who look like they could be a Super Bowl contender. The 49ers are fourth on the Super Bowl odds board at +900. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh looked good with Kenny Pickett under centre in camp, but this is a tough matchup out of the gate. About 75 per cent of the early action is on San Francisco -2.
