Pittsburgh Steelers NFL Predictions: 2019 Season Preview and Odds

David Bastl | Updated Sep 03, 2019

JuJu Smith-Schuster will be Roethlisberger's top target this season. Last season he hauled in 111 receptions. Smith-Schuster is ranked fourth for most receiving yards prop, paying +1000.

2019 will be a new chapter for the Pittsburgh Steelers. After years of stability on offence, Ben Roethlisberger still leads the group, but his surrounding cast looks a lot different. JuJu Smith Schuster has already started filling that role of number one receiver with 111 receptions last season. However, this season he’ll have to be the primary target, and with that comes always drawing the assignment of the oppositions number one defensive back. Smith-Schuster is ranked fourth at Sports Interaction for most receiving yards prop, paying +1000.

Running back James Connor raced for 973 yards in 13 starts last season. His focus this year will be improving on those numbers, and staying healthy. Connor is ranked 10th at Sports Interaction for Most Rushing Yards, paying +2300 to win that title.

The Steelers finished last season with a 9-6-1 record, missing the postseason.

Pittsburgh Steelers Acquisitions and Moves

The Killer B’s are now down to one B, as in Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers shipped out disgruntled receiver Antonio Brown to the Raiders, and after sitting out the 2018 season, Le’Veon Bell signed with the Jets.

Linebacker Mark Barron (Rams) and Steven Nelson (Chiefs) were brought in to help the defence, both will likely be starters. Also, after a letdown season in Jacksonville, Wide Receiver Donte Moncrief signed a two-year deal with the Steelers. Management hopes he will be a valuable secondary receiver for the offence. With their first round pick, the team opted for Linebacker Devin Bush Jr. After a standout season at the University of Michigan, Bush is expected to make a large leap into the NFL, and is currently a favourite at Sports Interaction for Defensive Rookie of the Year, paying +700.

Pittsburgh Steelers Prediction

The Steelers would like to avoid what they did last season, when they went 1-2-1 in the first four games.  Although Ben Roethlisberger is under Centre for a 16th consecutive season, there is a sense of a changing of the guard in the Steel City with all the new players around him on offence.

Because of this, expect the Steelers to likely go under its 9.5-win total, but the team will be in contention for a Wild Card spot. Prediction: 9-7 regular season.
