The New England Patriots and Detroit Lions square off for a Week 3 preseason battle at Ford Field on Friday night.
New England Patriots vs. Detroit Lions
The Lions own the Patriots in this spot… seriously. The team that went 0-16 in 2008 has dominated the best team over the last two decades in NFL preseason play. The Lions head into their first preseason meeting with the Pats since 2013 with a 6-2 record against New England in exhibition play.

New England Patriots
Week 3 of the preseason usually means that the starters play the entire first half. New England will showcase offseason acquisitions like receiver Brandin Cooks, cornerback Stephon Gilmore and defensive end Kony Ealy. The Patriots are poised to have yet another run at the Lombardi Trophy and have their eyes on a perfect season. Sports Interaction’s NFL futures has the current odds of team finishing 19-0 at +1400 and any team to finish 16-0 at +1100.
Expect the Lions to work on their running game this week. Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter stressed this week an emphasis on trying to run the ball more effectively after Detroit ranked 30th in the NFL in rushing last year at just 81.9 yards per game. We should see lots from Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick in the final real tune-up of the preseason.
