Panthers vs. Falcons Point Spread: NFL Week 11 Odds, Prediction
After suffering a massively disappointing loss at home, the Carolina Panthers (5-5) head to Atlanta to take on the fading Falcons (3-6).
Carolina lost 17-7 to the lowly New Orleans Saints, its second straight loss at home after opening 3-0 at Bank of America Stadium. The Falcons played a top AFC team close for the second consecutive week but fell in overtime against the Indianapolis Colts in Berlin, 31-25. Both teams were outgained last week by more than 200 yards.
Atlanta is looking for revenge after getting shut out 30-0 in Charlotte against the Panthers in Week 3.
The Falcons are listed as 3.5-point favourites on the NFL odds board.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Panthers are 3-2 against the spread (ATS) on the road and have won two straight away from home, including a shocking 16-13 triumph over the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field two weeks ago.
The Falcons are 2-2 against the spread at home and just 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against the Panthers. Atlanta has played to the over just three times this season.
Carolina Panthers
Last week’s setback to the Saints is absolutely deflating in terms of Carolina’s playoff hopes. The team was held to just 175 total yards as Rico Dowdle (53 yards rushing, one TD) was held in check.
Bryce Young had another underwhelming performance under center. Although he had won his previous four games as the Panthers’ starter, Young’s numbers are anything but eye-popping. He completed 17 of 24 passes for just 124 yards while turning the ball over twice. Young has surpassed 200 yards passing just once in nine games.
With games coming up against the 49ers, Rams, Seahawks, and two against the NFC South-leading Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a loss in Atlanta may be all she wrote for Carolina.
Atlanta Falcons
Second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was just as underwhelming against the Colts. He completed 12 of 28 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown, and lost a fumble. It’s pretty hard to complete less than 50% of your passes in today’s NFL, where going deep for most teams is considered taboo.
The Falcons’ other offensive stars had solid days. Drake London had six catches for 104 yards and a score, and Bijan Robinson rushed 17 times for 84 yards. Meanwhile, the defence posted seven sacks and has 13 total over the last two weeks.
Atlanta is going nowhere until it figures out how to convert on third down. The Falcons went 0-for-8 against the Colts and are now 3-for-29 on third down over the past three weeks.
But that same defence was gashed by the Colts for 519 total yards. That includes 244 yards and three touchdowns from Indianapolis running back Jonathan Taylor, who made Atlanta look foolish on more than one occasion in Berlin.
Who Will Win Panthers vs. Falcons?
The Week 3 shutout loss is misleading. Atlanta outgained the Panthers, 332-224, but was done in by three turnovers. The Falcons’ top-ranked pass defence will have no issues against Young’s vanilla blueprint, but Atlanta’s 29th-ranked run defence will be on notice against Dowdle.
Carolina has already surpassed expectations this season with five wins, but it appears that momentum is rapidly fading. Look for the Falcons to end their four-game losing streak with a 24-14 victory.
