NFL Preview: Giants and Titans Look to Bounce Back

Tennessee and New York both lost in week 2 after impressing in their opening games. Who will get back on track this Sunday?

Giants’ defense must attack
New York has supposedly the deepest front seven in all of the NFL yet this collection of talent managed all of 1 sack against the Colts last week. This weekend they face the two-headed monster of Chris Johnson and Vince Young as the Titans come to New Meadowlands stadium. Not that this aforementioned beast has looked all that hot of late. Young was benched after making two fumbles and throwing two interceptions against the Steelers while Johnson held to 34 yards on 16 carries. Between the Giants’ defense and Titans’ offense, week 2 produced an All-Pro fellowship of mediocrity.

The key to victory for New York will be in controlling Young. While I don’t expect the Giants to force as many mistakes as Pittsburgh managed, they could force him into a purely dink and dunk role. This would play into the hands of the Giants’ defense, forcing the Titans to over-commit to Johnson. Offensively the Giants need to become more consistent. The Brandon Jacobs-Ahmad Bradshaw tandem should be one of the best running combinations in the NFL. Instead Jacobs has been reduced to a role player and shows a distinct lack of confidence. Eli Manning needs that partnership to work so he can mix and match in the passing game.

New York’s offensive woes won’t be fully resolved by Sunday but the Giants should be in good enough shape to see off Tennessee. Bet on the New York Giants as -3.0 favorites with Sports Interaction.

Vick will start
The Eagles travel to Jacksonville with Michael Vick confirmed as their starting quarterback. An impressive showing against the Lions in place of the injured Kevin Kolb was enough for Andy Reid to elevate Vick above the fit-again Kolb. It’s a remarkable turnaround for the former Falcons quarterback who missed two full seasons after going to prison for his involvement in a dog fighting ring.

NFL betting fans should not fully jump on the Vick bandwagon just yet. Shining against the Lions isn’t all that difficult and we may not learn a lot more against a young Jacksonville team this weekend. It may turn out that Vick’s style of throwing may not suit Philadelphia’s receiving corps in the long run. He should still have too much talent for the Jaguars to handle. Bet on Philadelphia to win as -3.0 favorites with Sports Interaction.
