NFL Preview: Cowboys Make Early Trip to Washington
Fedex Field hosts the first Sunday Night Football game of 2010 as the Redskins welcome Dallas in a NFC East battle.
Romo must strike early
Dallas travel to Washington deserving of the favorites tag despite concerns about the Cowboys’ offensive line. The Redskins have adapted their defensive scheme under Jim Haslett to a 3-4 system but don’t expect Washington to have it perfected by Sunday night. Albert Haynesworth, by far both the most talented and headache-inducing player on the Redskins defense, has already complained about the system.
In order to capitalize on the rawness of this scheme, Dallas quarterback Tony Romo must find his receivers early and often. If the Cowboys can mask the issues surrounding its defense for the first half, then Romo has the tools to end this game as a contest early. The longer Washington stays in the game, the easier it will be for the Redskins defense to rip apart Dallas’ offensive line.

With Donovan McNabb looking to make a good first impression, it’s possible Washington’s offense could raise its game for week 1. NFL betting fans shouldn’t get too carried away with the much-hyped arrival from Philadelphia. Even a player of McNabb’s talent can only do so much with a receiving corps as limited as Washington’s. I like the Cowboys to put the result beyond doubt early. Bet on Dallas as a -3.5 favorite with Sports Interaction.
Giants look for winning start
John Fox begins what looks to be a lame-duck season in Carolina with a tough road assignment against the Giants. The Panthers travel to New Meadowlands Stadium for what will be the first regular season game in the $1.6 billion facility.
Matt Moore hasn’t exactly inspired confidence with his pre-season showings and that’s bad news against this New York defense. No team in the NFL can match the Giants for depth in the front four and I expect New York to go after Moore early and often on Sunday. Carolina, for its part, won’t be in much of a position to strike back. Eli Manning has a reliable offensive line and won’t have to worry about Julius Peppers, now that the former Panther has shipped off to Chicago. With a greater array of weapons at his disposal, I like Manning to get the job done. Bet on the New York Giants as -7.0 favorites with Sports Interaction.
