There is no shortage of compelling stories swirling around the NFL heading into the final week of the preseason, most notably in Cleveland, where it was announced that veteran quarterback Joe Flacco will start for the Browns to open the 2025 season.

Flacco had a remarkable career resurgence of sorts in 2023, before a season to forget a year ago. He had been competing with the likes of Kenny Pickett and rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, the former of which turned heads with his performance in Cleveland’s preseason opener against Carolina.

The 25th overall pick is still working out the kinks of how to play at the NFL level, but he seems to fit nicely within Brian Daboll’s offense and has looked like the best quarterback in this system through the first two preseason games.

It certainly helps matters that Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston have also played pretty well in limited duty, and the Giants defense has forced multiple turnovers through the first couple of games. New York has won and covered in both of its preseason games, and I expect that trend to continue on Thursday.

Cleveland Browns -7 (-115) over Los Angeles Rams

The Browns are 2-0 in exhibition games and have looked good while covering the spread in both wins this preseason. Head coach Kevin Stefanski stated that he plans to treat this game like a regular-season affair, including simulating the Rams offense and defense in practice like it’s a real game week. We could certainly see Shedeur Sanders in this game at quarterback, which bodes well from a motivation standpoint for the favorites as well.
