Tennessee Titans
Minnesota actually opened as a 1.5-point favourite to win Friday’s pre-season finale, but with Ward and the rest of the Titans’ starters playing, Tennessee has jumped to a 3.5-point favourite as of Wednesday morning.
The most significant starter for the Titans is obviously rookie quarterback Cam Ward. Taken first overall in this year’s draft, Ward has completed seven of 15 pass attempts for 109 yards with no touchdowns over his first two pre-season games.
The 23-year-old is coming off a monster 2024 college season which saw him lead Miami to a 10-3 record while throwing for 4,313 yards with 39 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Ward went on to win the Davey O’Brien Award, the Manning Award and he was named ACC Player of the Year.
Tennessee also announced some good news on Wednesday, as they activated top cornerback L’Jarius Sneed from the PUP list after he passed a physical. Sneed was limited to just five games last season with a quad injury. However, it should be noted Callahan was non-committal when asked if Sneed would be ready for the regular season opener on Sept. 7 against Denver.
Tempers flaring
The announcement of Tennessee’s starters playing on Friday comes in the aftermath of a fight in practice between Ward and defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons. The reported scuffle happened after Ward threw a touchdown pass to Calvin Ridley, with tempers flaring as Ward celebrated.
Ward continued practice, but Simmons reportedly did not, with both players said to have been punished with extra running after practice.
