NFL Odds & Predictions: Which Team Will Sign Jameis Winston?
The Buccaneers made one of the biggest free agent signings of all-time when they inked Tom Brady to a two-year contract in March.
That move all but confirmed that former 2015 first overall pick Jameis Winston would be on the move. Winston’s five-year stay in Tampa Bay was best described as terrific and tragic.
The 26 year old will have a decent list of suitors and all of them are currently posted at Sports Interaction.
Last year Winston made history becoming the first NFL player to throw for least 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in a single season. He also led the league with 5109 passing yards.
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars remain the favourites to land the former Heisman trophy winner from Florida State. Earlier in March the Jags were listed at +250, but that number has been moved to +400. Nick Foles did not work out as Jacksonville had hoped and after one-year in Northern Florida he was dealt to the Chicago Bears. The Jags currently list second-year player Gardner Minshew as the team’s starter on the depth chart, but also hold the number nine pick in the upcoming draft.
Winston would be a big improvement for Head Coach Doug Marrone and new Offensive Coordinator Jay Gruden.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Signing with the Steelers would mean Jameis Winston is okay with being a backup to start the season. However, with starter Ben Roethlisberger coming off major shoulder surgery and being 38 years old, could the 2020 season be Big Ben’s last? The future Hall of Famer has flirted with the idea of retirement in the past, and if he does, Winston would be well groomed to take over the starter’s position. The Steelers opened at +700 to sign Winston, but that number now sits at +400.
New England Patriots
The Patriots currently have Brian Hoyer, rookie Jarrett Stidham and journeyman Cody Kessler on the depth chart and you have to think Head Coach Bill Belichick would like to improve that part of his roster before the season begins. Winston has plenty of talent and Belichick would help reduce his interception total; this combination could be good. The Patriots opened at +900 to sign Winston, but the interest level has dropped and the current number is +1600.
