NFL Odds Move After Tom Brady Deflategate Suspension Overturned
Tom Brady fought the NFL and won. With Brady’s four-game suspension squashed in court, the Patriots kick off the season at home as betting favourites.
Tom Brady and the New England Patriots have won their battle with the NFL as Brady’s four-game suspension for his alleged part in Deflategate was overturned by Federal judge Richard Berman Thursday.
That means it’s very likely Brady will be on the field when the Super Bowl champion Patriots open the regular season Thursday September 10. Sports Interaction oddsmakers expect the New England Patriots to open as at least 7-point favorites at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“That line will be at least a touchdown now that Tom Brady is back,” a Sports Interaction oddsmaker says. “That line could easily move higher too. The Pats are a huge public team that’s opening the NFL season at home after winning the Super Bowl.”
NFL Week 1 Odds
The NFL still has the option of appealing the decision, but at this point it seems more likely that the league would like to distance itself from this ongoing Deflategate saga as quickly as possible. This case has been going on since May 11, when Brady was accused of having a role in New England purposely deflating footballs before last season’s AFC Championship game.
Oddsmakers had the pointspread for Pittsburgh vs. New England off the Week 1 board as Brady went through the appeal process.
NFL Super Bowl Odds
The Patriots were set at 9/1 to win the Super Bowl before Brady’s ruling came down, behind favourites Seattle and Green Bay. Following today’s legal decision, Super Bowl odds were pulled for updating. The latest Super Bowl odds will be posted as soon as possible.
