NFL Futures: Super Bowl XLIV MVP

Yes, there are still four teams left in the annual NFL postseason tournament and yes, we still don’t know who will be the AFC and NFC representatives in Super Bowl XLIV. But is that going to stop us from looking way down the road?

Nope.

NFL football futures betting is now up and available at Sports Interaction’s online sportsbook; one of the best ones available has to be the Super Bowl XLIV MVP odds. Let’s run through the list, shall we?

Right now, the odds-on favourite is Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning, at 2/1. The reasons for this should be obvious; Manning was the regular season MVP and was the MVP of Super Bowl XLI. Manning is arguably the best QB in the game and is the most decorated signal-caller still left in the postseason; should the Colts get to the big dance, he’d be an even heavier favourite to take home the honours.

Coming in behind Manning is New Orleans QB Drew Brees, at 3/1. Brees is coming off an outstanding year for the Saints; he tied a career-high with 34 touchdown passes and threw for over 4,000 yards for the fourth consecutive year. He was named to the Pro Bowl, runner-up to Manning for MVP, Offensive Player of the Year and All-Pro. If the Saints get by Minnesota in the NFC Championship this weekend, Brees will be (much like Manning) a very heavy favourite to win MVP honors.

Speaking of Minnesota, its QB — the grizzled veteran, Brett Favre — is fourth on the NFL futures Super Bowl XLIV MVP list. Listed at 5/1, Favre is a bit of a longer shot than Brees and Manning, but has something going for him that the other two don’t: a storybook season. At age 40, what Favre did this year is downright amazing; he was named to his 11th Pro Bowl, became the first QB in NFL history to win a game at age 40 and threw 34 touchdowns, his highest total since the 1999 season.

The rest of the candidates are as follows:

  • Adrian Peterson 10/1
  • Reggie Wayne 14/1
  • Mark Sanchez 18/1
  • Reggie Bush 18/1
  • Joseph Addai 18/1
  • Dallas Clark 20/1
  • Marques Colston 22/1

  • Sidney Rice 28/1
  • Shonn Green 28/1
  • Thomas Jones 33/1
  • Pierre Garcon 33/1
  • Austin Collie 40/1
  • Darren Sharper 40/1
  • Jared Allen 40/1
  • Percy Harvin 50/1
