Monday Night Football: Bettors All In On Dallas Cowboys
If you read literally any NFL season preview, you’d know it wasn’t supposed to go like this for the Dallas Cowboys as they take a 5-1 record into tonight’s game against Washington.
Football pundits and talking heads expected a terrible Dallas defence, possibly even-all time bad. Tony Romo was supposed to be just as erratic as ever and there was no way the Cowboys would really commit to the running game.
Well, surprise.
The Cowboys have bounced around between 9 and 10-point favorites for tonight’s game at home to Washington and Monday Night Football bettors are all over Jerry Jones’ boys.
“We’re seeing heavy Dallas traffic on the side and the pointspread,” a Sports Interaction oddsmaker said. “About 83 percent of our bets are on the Cowboys and while we’re juicing Dallas -9.5 right now, we could see this line go back up to -10 before the kick.”
Dallas has always been a favorite of the betting public, so it’s shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Cowboys supporters are coming out of the woodwork.
“NFL bettors just can’t get enough of the Cowboys,” Sports Interaction’s oddsmaker added. “We had them at 50-1 to win the Super Bowl at the beginning of the season and now they’re at 9-1 so that should tell you everything you need to know about their support.”
It’s hard to argue with the stats. Dallas ranks fourth overall in total offence and ninth in points allowed (21). Right now, everything is going Dallas’ way, while Washington can’t seem to catch a break. Even though Washington ranks seventh in total offence and seventh in total defence, the club is just 2-5 straight up and against the spread.
Reports indicate Washington will keep Robert Griffin III on the sidelines again tonight, meaning Colt McCoy will be the starting quarterback. Sports Interaction’s oddsmaker says the difference on the pointspread between McCoy and RG3 starting would be “at least two points.”
The total currently sits at 49.5 with the “majority” of the bets coming in on the over.
