Anytime the reigning Super Bowl champions highlight Monday night football, oddsmakers know they’re going to have a tough time balancing their action. That’s exactly what we’re seeing hours before the Seattle Seahawks visit Washington.
The Seahawks opened as 7-point favorites but that line bumped to 7.5 by Monday morning.
“That line had to move,” a Sports Interaction oddsmaker said. “We have been taking steady money on the Seahawks since the open and now we have almost double the money on Seattle as we do on Washington. The hope is we’ll have Washington bettors jump at the hook before kickoff, but this point, I can’t rule out this line going up to Seattle -8. Bettors just can’t get enough of the Seahawks.”
Apart from Week 2’s hiccup against San Diego, you can understand why. Seattle is 6-1-1 against the spread in its last eight Monday games and has covered four of its last five on the road.
Plus, the betting community isn’t exactly enamoured with Washington right now after Kirk Cousins imploded in the Thursday Night Football game last week against the Giants.
“We’re just going to have to see what happens with this action over the next few hours.” Sports Interaction’s oddsmaker said. “We’re going to need to take in some Washington money at some point.”
Meanwhile, bettors are also hammering over 46 points.
“Generally speaking, we usually need the under on Monday Night Football, so this is nothing new,” Sports Interaction’s oddsmaker added. “We’ll continue to monitor this but there’s a good chance this total moves up to 46.5 before kickoff. I think bettors have seen Washington get exposed defensively the last couple of weeks and Seattle can put some points on the board.”
Washington and Seattle have combined to play over in five of seven games this season.
