Lions at Packers: SNF Preview and Result
Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers: Sunday Night Football
The last place the Detroit Lions want to go this week is to Lambeau Field for a date with the Green Bay Packers. The Lions haven’t won a game in Green Bay since 1991 and head into Week 14 having lost four straight games. Just like the past few years, Detroit’s defence is the major problem.
No Defence
Detroit is allowing 31.2 points per game during the losing streak. Not surprisingly frustration is growing in Detroit’s locker room. “Yeah, we’re loaded,” an anonymous Lions player told Yahoo! Sports. “But we have a couple of guys who don’t understand what it takes to win. Just making a couple of plays and thinking that makes you great … sometimes you want to just shake some of these guys and say, ‘Don’t you get it?'” The source continued to call out Ndamukong Suh, saying that Suh hurts the team when he “loses his cool.” Detroit will need Suh to have a big day to contain Green Bay’s offence. However, the Packers have allowed the most sacks in the NFL.
Hitting the Ground Running
Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers leads the league with a 105 QB rating and has 29 touchdowns with eight interceptions. He thinks his stats could be padded if Green Bay could run the ball better. The Packers did run for 152 yards last week against Minnesota’s tough defence last week and Rodgers is looking for more of that. “I think we can all just in honesty admit here that it’s about the production,” Rodgers told Jason Wilde on ESPNWisconsin.com. “It’s a nice thing to say it’s about the quantity, not the quality. But who’re we kidding here? It’s about the production. It’s a lot better when you hand off and you’re kind of taking it to the backside on your keep-fake, and you look back and the guy’s still going not tackled.” Detroit’s running game also looked better last week. The Lions rank 22nd in rushing offence, but managed 138 yards on the ground last week against Indianapolis.
Prediction
The Lions are basically playing out the schedule right now. They can still put a pile of points on the board with Matthew Stafford and Megatron leading the way, but they don’t have the guts for a game like this. Green Bay needs this win to keep the pressure on the Bears and shouldn’t have much problem moving the chains against Detroit. Look for the Cheeseheads to put this one away in the fourth quarter. Final score prediction: Green Bay 31, Detroit 21.
