It’s a Love Story: Travis Kelce Week 1 props after engagement to Taylor Swift

It’s a love story and Taylor Swift said yes. The superstar pop singer and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce announced their engagement in a joint-instagram post on Tuesday.

Will this provide some extra motivation for Kelce when the Chiefs open the season on the road against the Chargers on Sept. 5? Let’s take a look.

Love story

Kelce and Swift’s engagement comes after two years of dating that also brought untold numbers of Swifties into the NFL orbit.

While Kelce was already star in his own right as a future Hall of Famer, his fame exploded when he became linked to Swift. The relationship drew the attention of millions of Swift’s fans, generating a whole new stream of revenue for the NFL from a brand new fan base.

The engagement should also bring to rest the conspiracy theorists who have said Kelce and Swift’s relationship has been an elaborate publicity stunt to generate more attention for Swift and the NFL.

It’s unclear when and where the couple became engaged, but we do know where Kelce will be on Sept. 5 and that’s in L.A. to take on the Chargers. So let’s shake, shake, shake, shake off the Swift puns and do what we do best: talk football.

Week 1 props

Early Week 1 props have Kelce listed at +1100 to score the game’s first touchdown against the Charger’s in Week 1. Keep in mind, Kelce is coming off a down-year that saw him put up just three TDs in the regular season, with his first coming in Week 7. L.A. rookie running back Omarion Hampton is a+750 favourite to score the first TD in Week 1, while Rashee Rice is next at +900.

Kelce’s receiving yards total is set at 45.5 against the Chargers. The Over is tempting on this prop as he averaged 51.4 receiving yards per game last year and he’s poised to have a better season in 2025 after revamping his off-season workout regimen.

Kansas City Chiefs futures

The futures market has the Chiefs listed at +800 to win the Super Bowl. That trails only Philadelphia, Buffalo and Baltimore, who are all priced at +700. This seems like great value. With Patrick Mahomes under centre and Andy Reid coaching, this dynasty will be a contender every year. In fact, Kansas City has made it to the AFC Championship Game every year since Mahomes became a full-time starter.

The Chiefs’ regular season win total is set at 11.5, with the Over priced at +105. In my mind, getting plus-money on the Over for Kansas City’s wins makes it sound like oddsmakers think they’ll take a step back despite the team finishing with at least 12 wins in six of the last seven seasons. That could be because of the tough AFC West division as the Broncos, Chargers and Raiders should all be better than they were in 2024.
