green bay packers season preview

When you have Aaron Rodgers on your team, the expectation is that you'll do better than 6-9-1, their 2018 record. When you don't meet expectations, it's time to shake things up, which is exactly what the Green Bay Packers did.

Almost immediately after losing to Arizona in Week 13 last season, Mike McCarthy was fired after over 12 years as head coach of the Pack. That was just the beginning. The 2019 Green Bay Packers will look a lot different than they did in 2018, with many players who were synonymous with the Green and Gold now gone from the roster.

With plenty of young players and a completely different offensive scheme in place, thanks to new head coach and former Rams and Titans offensive coordinator, Matt Lafleur, the Packers are hoping to right the ship while their star QB is still in his prime.

Green Bay Packers Acquisitions and Moves

For long time Packers fans, several of the major offseason moves stung a little. It does seem like GM Brian Gutekunst has a plan in mind for a big restructure of the team, and it was more clear than ever when he let receiver Randall Cobb and outside linebacker Clay Matthews go to the Cowboys and the Rams, respectively. Another surprise move came at the start of training camp, when the team released former Pro Bowl defensive lineman Mike Daniels. Nick Perry was also cut.

In terms of free agency moves, the Packers got busy to fill in the missing pieces. Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith were brought in to strengthen the pass rush, and Adrian Amos was added to the roster as well.

Green Bay made some good picks at the draft, picking up Rashan Gary with the 12th pick, and then shoring up the safety position by drafting Darnell Savage.  Other picks of note were Kingsley Keke, Ka’dar Hollman and Ty Summers.

Green Bay Packers 2019 Season Prediction

The big question. Can Matt LaFleur right the Packers ship and get Rodgers back to form? If the issue really was coaching, then that could indicate that the two-time MVP quarterback could return to his winning ways. But does he have the talent in front of him to take them all the way? We’ll be generous with our prediction and say they go 10-6 this year to make the playoffs.
