Giants vs. Seahawks Point Spread: NFL Week 5 Odds, Prediction
Injuries have piled up on Seattle’s defence which made Monday’s 42-29 defeat at Detroit a little less surprising. Still, ending up on the wrong side of the NFL record book by allowing Detroit to go 18-for-18 through the air last week wasn’t ideal. The then-undefeated Seahawks had no answer for Detroit, but it’s fair to give Seattle a pass given the circumstances — injuries on defence, up against a top offence, long road travel, etc.
The good news for Seattle is the 1-3 Giants got issues putting the ball in the end zone. New York scored zero touchdowns in last Thursday’s 20-15 loss versus Dallas and again rank near the bottom in scoring; New York’s 15 points per outing through four games is 29th in the NFL.
Kickoff at Lumen Field gets started at 4:25 p.m. EDT with the Seahawks a six-point favourite at home and the over-under at 43.5 on the NFL odds.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Through four games the Giants have eclipsed 20 points once, and fun fact they’re 1-0 when doing so. But New York’s dropped their other three contests this season and have averaged 13 points per game when doing so. Given the offensive struggles it’s impressive New York’s defence ranks just outside the top 10 in the NFL with 21 points allowed per game. All of this combined does have the Giants 4-0 to the under this season.
Five of the last six Giants–Seahawks battles have finished under the total too. Seattle is 6-2 straight up their last eight times hosting the Giants, and New York’s managed to cover the spread just once in their last seven times facing off with Seattle. Unless the Seahawks defence doesn’t get any reinforcements back, it’s safe to either target the favourite or the under here.
New York Giants
It’s Malik Nabers, Wan’Dale Robinson, or bust for the Giants offence. The receiving duo finished with another 29 targets in last week’s loss, accounting for 76 per cent of Daniel Jones’ targeted passes. Nabers, the 2024 sixth-overall pick, is on pace for 221 targets this season which would shatter the all-time NFL record. Again, this is a rookie we’re talking about. A now-injured rookie too, as Nabers (concussion) and starting running back Devin Singletary (groin) missed practice Wednesday.
And while Nabers’ numbers are strong, it’s no recipe for success. New York’s scored four touchdowns so far and are 30th in the NFL with 85.3 rushing yards per game. If New York is without Nabers and/or Singletary, it’s not out of the question this team will go without a TD in Seattle.
Seattle Seahawks
Tackling, takeaways, limiting explosion plays — you name something and the wounded Seahawks defence likely struggled with it. After a walkthrough practice Wednesday, Seattle got a little more clarity to may return Sunday and who may not: DL Leonard Williams, LB Jerome Baker, S Julian Love, LB Uchenna Nwosu, and NT Cam Young all listed were all limited while LB Tyrel Dodson, DT Byron Murphy, and LB Boye Mafe all did not practice.
Seattle eclipsed 500 total yards on offence in the 42-29 loss at Detroit, airing it out while trailing. Geno Smith accounted for nearly 400 of those yards with his arm, connecting with D.K. Metcalf seven times for 104 yards and Jaxon Smith-Njigba eight times for 51 yards. Ten different Seahawks caught a pass last week, so this offence does like to spread the ball around.
