The 5-1 Green Bay Packers will look to continue their win streak at home Sunday, after downing Chicago 24-14 last week.  For a little bit it looked like 2-4 Washington might pull off the improbable upset over Kansas City in Week 6, but the wheels came off in the second half and they dropped the game 31-13.

The Packers are 8.5-point favourites to win on the NFL odds, with a total of 48.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

These teams haven’t met since Green Bay walked away with a 20-15 victory in December 2019.  It was a quiet game by Aaron Rodgers‘ standards, as he finished with 195 passing yards and a touchdown.  Dwayne Haskins (now the third-stringer in Pittsburgh) led Washington with 170 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Washington has struggled against Green Bay in the past.  They’ve lost seven of their last 10 games overall against the Packers and they have dropped five straight games in Green Bay.  They’ve been a terrible cover option this year, going 1-5 against the spread.  Washington has leaned towards high scoring games, as they’ve hit the Over in four of their last five contests overall and 15 of their last 20 against NFC North teams.

Green Bay has an intimidating 16-2 record over their last 18 home games and they enter this game on a five-game win streak overall.  They’re 5-1 ATS this season, covering in five straight games.  The total has gone Under in four of the Packers’ six games in 2021.

Washington Football Team

Former XFL quarterback Taylor Heinicke may be coming back to reality.  After throwing seven touchdowns in his first three starts, he’s struggled in his last two games.  Last week, Heinicke was 24-for-39 with 189 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception.  Washington finished with just 276 total yards and their lowest point total of the season.  The run game has suffered, as Antonio Gibson still appears to be dealing with a shin injury.  Gibson only managed 44 yards on 10 carries last week and he hasn’t finished with more than 69 yards since Week 1.  He’s been limited at practice this week and there’s doubt if he’ll be able to play Sunday.  The defence hasn’t been any better for Washington, as they gave up 30+ points last week for the fourth straight game.

Green Bay Packers

Rodgers has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league since his brutal performance in Week 1.  Last week he was 17-for-23, finishing with 195 passing yards and two touchdowns, before running another score in to seal the win.  Rodgers now has multiple touchdown passes in each of his last six games, with a single interception in that span.  Davante Adams and Aaron Jones have both stepped up in the absence of Marquez Valdes-Scantling (hamstring), who is on injured reserve.  Adams is averaging over 111 receiving yards per game this season and he accounted for nearly half of Green Bay’s receiving yards against Chicago.  Jones finished with 76 rushing yards against the Bears and has recorded more than 100 yards from scrimmage in two straight games.
