Falcons vs. Panthers Point Spread: NFL Week 6 Odds, Prediction
The Falcons pulled even with Tampa Bay atop the division standings with a 36-30 victory over the Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football to remain unbeaten in divisional play so far this season. The Panthers return home after being humbled in a crushing 36-10 loss in Chicago, but have claimed the outright the outright win in their past two home dates with the Falcons, both as underdogs on the NFL odds.
With these two teams seemingly headed in opposite directions, the Falcons have emerged as 6-point road favourites on the NFL Week 6 odds. The Panthers trail as lengthy +220 underdogs on the NFL moneyline and the total is listed at 47.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Long suffering Panthers fans can take some comfort in their team’s recent success against the Falcons on home turf. Carolina has limited the Falcons to just 11 points per game during their two-game head-to-head win streak on home turf, capped by last December’s narrow 9-7 victory. However, Atlanta has otherwise dominated when these divisional rivals meet, winning 12 of 17 overall meetings since 2015. But surprisingly, it has been the Panthers who have enjoyed greater success at the sportsbooks, covering in five of their past eight dates with the Falcons. However, the Panthers have done little to win the confidence of sports bettors this season, with their lone win against the spread coming in their stunning 36-22 upset win in Las Vegas three weeks ago, which remains the high points of this season, and generating a dismal 3-19 ATS record since the beginning of last season.
Atlanta Falcons
With Kirk Cousins flashing vintage form, the Falcons put the rest of the NFC South on notice with last week’s 36-30 victory over the Bucs. After struggling at times during his first four appearances with the Falcons, Cousins exploded for 509 passing yards and four touchdowns last week including a 45-yeard scoring pass to KhaDarel Hodge to seal the overtime victory. Atlanta has now racked up 31 points per game during their current 2-0 run after tallying just 16.3 points per game during a middling 1-2 start.
Injuries remain a concern for this squad. Already without Rondale Moore, who is expected to miss the entire season with a knee injury, Cousins may have to make do without Darnell Mooney, who has missed time at practice this week, also with a knee injury. However, with the Panthers struggling to contain opposing pivots, Cousins offers solid value as a -115 bet on the NFL player props to top 250.5 passing yards.
Carolina Panthers
Bryce Young returned to action in last week’s loss to the Bears, but not under the circumstances that most had hoped for. Young stepped in under center after the game had already gotten out of hand, relieving veteran pivot Andy Dalton as a precautionary measure. The first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft looks no closer to reclaiming the starter’s job despite seeing Dalton compile just 136 passing yards and fail to find the end zone in last week’s 36-10 loss. The Panthers enjoyed a brief lift after Dalton assumed the reins, following up on their upset win over the Raiders with a respectable performance in 34-24 loss to Cincinnati. But with injuries piling up, thing just might get even worse before they get better.
Among the key personnel on this week’s injury report are receiver Diontae Johnson, who was limited at practice, and tight end Tommy Tremble, who did not participate. Veteran Adam Thielen also remains on the shelf with a hamstring injury while tackle Taylor Moton and veteran linebacker Jadeveon Clowney also missed practice this week. While recent clashes between these teams have been hard fought, it is touch seeing the Panthers keep pace with Atlanta this time around.
