Eagles vs. Chiefs Super Bowl 59 Recap: Philly Wins Big in 40-22 Blowout

The Eagles came out swinging and never looked back, taking down the Chiefs 40-22 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Jalen Hurts and the Eagles’ defecse stole the show, shutting out Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs for the entire first half and keeping control the rest of the way.

Eagles Set the Tone Early

Philly wasted no time making a statement. On the opening drive, Hurts led a 69-yard march down the field, capping it off with a 1-yard “Tush Push” touchdown—the move that’s become their trademark. Moments later, the defense got in on the action. Rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean jumped a pass from Mahomes, picking it off and taking it 38 yards to the house. Just like that, it was 14-0 Eagles before the first quarter was even over.

While the Chiefs struggled to find any rhythm, the Eagles kept rolling. By halftime, Philly had a commanding 24-0 lead, and the Chiefs looked completely out of sync.

Chiefs Try to Rally, But Eagles Stay in Control

The Chiefs finally got on the board in the third quarter, when Mahomes found rookie Xavier Worthy for a 24-yard touchdown. But every time Kansas City looked like they might make a run, Philly shut the door. The Eagles defense brought the pressure all night, racking up six sacks on Mahomes and forcing three turnovers.

Hurts put the game out of reach when he launched a 46-yard bomb to DeVonta Smith, giving the Eagles an insurmountable lead. Even with Mahomes’ late push, including a touchdown to DeAndre Hopkins, it was too little, too late.

With this dominant win, the Eagles claim their first Super Bowl title since 2017 and slam the door on Kansas City’s three-peat dreams.
