It’s been nothing but disappointment for the Los Angeles Chargers so far this young NFL season. With a 0-3 record to start and 2 of those losses decided by no more than 3 points. Meanwhile, the Eagles are a respectable 2-1 in 3 games and currently tied for the lead in the NFC East Division. Oddsmakers are expecting a high-scoring affair in this one, with Sports Interaction’s game total currently at 47.

The Chargers and Eagles franchises have met 11 times in total, with the Chargers holding a 7-4 series lead. The last time these two teams went head to head was back in 2013 when Phillip Rivers threw for 419 yards in a 33-30 victory for the Chargers. Of note, the Eagles aren’t exactly flying high with a 2-7 record ATS in their last 9 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight-up win. They (Eagles) are also 1-3 straight up in their last four trips to the west coast. As of Tuesday, Sports Interaction bettors are 52 percent in favor of the Eagles.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles relied on the foot of kicker Jake Elliott this past Sunday. The rookie sent the Giants home after he nailed a 61 yard field goal with no time on the clock to improve the Eagles to a 2-1 on the year. Sophomore quarterback Carson Wentz has had a nice season to date, with 816 yards passing, 5 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions in 3 games.

The Eagles are currently ranked 9th in total offence, while the defence has had its problems (ranked 23rd in total defence) especially against the pass (27th ranked), an area where Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers could hurt them. With the Eagles current 1-1 record on the road, they have already matched last year’s win total (1-7 in 2016) away from Lincoln Financial Field.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers are still in search of their first win of the season, and considering the 3 teams ahead of them, within the division, it better happen fast. Phillip Rivers has guided an offence to respectable numbers, as they are currently ranked 17th overall in total offence. One key player to look for on the injury report (later this week) is running back Melvin Gordon. Gordon left the game against the Chiefs game with a knee injury, and if he isn’t ready to go Sunday, that could pose problems for the Chargers run attack.
