The Rams are 2.5-point favourites on the NFL odds with a total of 50.5.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
It’s fair to say Monday is the season for the 2-6 Dolphins in terms of possibly reaching the playoffs for a third straight season. They are not catching Buffalo in the AFC East after being swept in the season series so it’s wild card or bust, but Miami sits 12th in the AFC and is +500 for the playoffs and -750 for no. I don’t rule it out with a win here because the Fins will be solid home favourites the next two games against Las Vegas and New England and then all of a sudden they are 5-6. Thing is, though, Miami almost never plays well in cold weather and closes with two outdoor cold-weather games in Cleveland and New Jersey (Jets).
Los Angeles is fortunate to be playing in a much weaker than expected NFC West. San Francisco was a heavy favourite to win it a third straight year but has been hit hard by injuries, and the 4-4 Rams are only a half-game behind first-place Arizona. So L.A. in theory has two routes to the postseason and is +185 to get there with no -230.
There have been 14 all-time meetings between the franchises all in the regular season, and Miami leads 12-2. It hasn’t lost in the series since 2001 when the Rams were in St. Louis. The Dolphins have never lost in Los Angeles to the Rams.
Miami Dolphins
Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa is a very good quarterback, but he can’t beat good teams. Tua fell to 6-13 in his NFL career against teams with a winning record and 1-8 against the Bills with a 30-27 last-second loss in Buffalo on Sunday. Tyler Bass kicked a franchise-record 61-yard field goal with five seconds to go. The Dolphins had rallied from down a TD to tie twice in the fourth, and the teams traded leads four times and combined for seven consecutive scoring drives in the second half. Tua played great, completing 25 of 28 for a career-high 89.3 per cent for 231 yards and two scores.
It was the second straight last-second loss on a field goal for Miami. It ranks second-to-last in the league in scoring at 15.5 PPG but is now 0-2 when scoring more than 20 points. Top pass-rusher Bradley Chubb has yet to play this season off a torn ACL suffered last year but might debut this week. Miami is 2-9 ATS in its past 11 games.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams looked dead in the water at 1-4 entering their Week 6 bye but are 3-0 out of it following 26-20 OT win in Seattle on Sunday. Matthew Stafford hit Demarcus Robinson on a 39-yard TD catch for the win with Robinson making a terrific one-handed grab. The Seahawks drove to the Rams 16 on the opening possession of overtime and went for it on fourth-and-1 instead of trying a field goal and were stopped. The Rams picked off Seahawks QB Geno Smith three times, twice in the red zone in the fourth quarter. One was retuned 103 yards for a TD by Kamren Kinchens, the longest pick-six in franchise history.
Starting offensive tackle Rob Havenstein injured his ankle and will sit out at least Week 10. Wideout Puka Nacua was in some question with a knee injury but started. He was ejected in the first half for appearing to throw a punch at a Seattle player, but he didn’t connect and shouldn’t be suspended. The Rams are 7-1 SU in their past eight at home.
