Dallas Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs Tears ACL, Gone for Season

The Dallas Cowboys enter Week 3 with some bad news. In fact, said news concerns their entire season. Superstar cornerback Trevon Diggs suffered an ACL tear at practice on Thursday and is expected to miss the entire 2023 season, although it’s early to provide an exact timetable.

At the time of writing (Thursday evening), the NFL odds still have the Dallas Cowboys pegged as -12.5 favourites in their match against the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday.

Cowboys Star CB Trevon Diggs Tears ACL, Out for Season

There’s no such thing as expected injury news, but some headlines are more surprising than others. Diggs is an integral part of Dallas’s defensive schemes and has been for a couple of seasons already. He is unquestionably one of the main reasons why the Cowboys are a difficult team to score on.

His absence means the team will need to reconfigure its lineup. The early word is that DaRon Bland is the most likely candidate to fill his teammate’s shoes. Jourdan Lewis is another name being mentioned, even though his experience mostly concerns playing in the slot, not outside. Noah Igbinoghene is another possibility.

Diggs’ 2021 remains his highlight season with 11 interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns. Through two contests this year he already stole one pass.
