Cowboys vs. Jaguars Point Spread: NFL Week 15 Odds, Prediction
The ‘Boys are keeping pace with the NFC East-leading Eagles, who refuse to lose, so Dallas had better keep on winning as well.
Mike McCarthy’s Cowboys sit as -4.5 favourites on the NFL odds. The over-under is predicted at 47.5 points scored.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
This isn’t a matchup one hears about often, in large part because intra-conference contests are spread over four years. For those who bask in such details, Dallas holds a slight 3-2 edge over the past five meetings. They’ve claimed the most recent two by wide margins for that matter.
The Texas-based unit has earned its spurs against the spread this year, amassing an 8-5 record. It doesn’t sparkle as much as their outright win-loss tally of 10-3, but there are details to consider. For one, a couple of their failures were of the narrowest of margins, such as the overtime defeat to the Packers and the narrow loss to the rival Eagles. They’ve also been slightly complacent lately. They couldn’t handle a -10 against a flailing Giants squad, nor a -17 versus the spectacularly inept Texans.
Jacksonville is a case of “they are who they are.” Not only do they sit at 5-8 in the AFC South, but they’ve earned a 5-8 record ATS. What’s more, every single victory led to a successful cover, whereas every single defeat translated into a failure to cover. What’s tricky is that some of their successes have been as underdogs when they totally whipped the opposition. Could they do that to Dallas?
Dallas Cowboys
Last week we talked about the Seahawks “getting away with one” against a lowly Rams team in Week 13. Little did we know what was coming up in Week 14 when the very strong Cowboys played hosts to the abysmal Houston Texans. Suffice it to say that as hosts, they were most gracious.
In what felt like an NFL-themed episode of the Twilight Zone, the home side required a daring, 98-yard march downfield orchestrated by Dak Prescott to win. It was capped off with a powerful Ezekiel Elliott touchdown with only 41 seconds left on the game clock, proving his side with a desperate 27-23 victory. Houston’s weekly ineptitude reared its ugly head at the worst possible time, which set up Dallas’ game-winning drive. Heading into Jacksonville, the Cowboys can still feel confident with a top-ten-ranked offence in total yards and rushing yards per game.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Last week was one of those games that surely left Jaguars fans in two states of mind. Going on the road and mauling the AFC South rival Titans 36-22 must have felt good. For one thing, the Floridian squad hadn’t tasted victory in Tennessee since 2013. On the flip side, it was yet another demonstration of what the 2022 Jags could be if they only found a modicum of consistency. The Titans were the third team this season who was favoured heading into a match with the Jaguars and got thumped, joining the Chargers and the Colts.
Tight end Evan Engram was unstoppable, corralling 11 catches for a praiseworthy 162 yards and 2 TDs. Many of said yards came after the catch, as he left Titans defenders eating dust in his wake. Trevor Lawrence also had one the best days of his pro career, going 30/42 with 368 yards and 3 TDs and no interceptions.
