Cowboys vs. Commanders Point Spread: NFL Week 12 Odds, Prediction

The 3-7 Cowboys are in danger of dropping six straight games, as they tailspin in what’s shaping up to be a lost season. The 7-4 Commanders have lost two consecutive games but are likely still headed to the post-season. Whether it’s at as the NFC East winner or a Wild-Card club is still what’s to be determined, with the Commanders now two games back of the division lead.

As hinted off the top, this matchup used to be one Dallas dominated. In the Cowboys last 11 trips to Washington, eight times have the Cowboys left victorious. All-time, Dallas is 78-48-2 against Washington. Sunday’s the chance for the surging Commanders to repay the favour.

Kickoff at Northwest Stadium begins at 1 p.m. EST with the Commanders a -550 moneyline favourite, and -10.5 on the point spread. NFL oddsmakers have the over-under at 45.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

If there’s any silver lining for the Cowboys, it’s that the majority of the damage inflicted on them has taken place on their home field. Dallas is actually 3-2 outright on the road this season. The problem ahead is Washington’s dominance has come on home field, where they are both 4-1 outright and ATS this season.

Coming off a divisional loss last week, Washington is now 2-7 straight up in their last nine divisional outings. Dallas remains 5-1 in their last six versus the NFC East, but have failed to cover in seven straight contests against an NFC opponent. The best advice or takeaway here may be to just use your eyes, and see Dallas is trending downwards and Washington upwards.

Dallas Cowboys

Things are literally falling apart in Dallas (see: the AT&T Stadium roof). Last week was a bunch of same old when it comes to the 2024 Cowboys season: Dallas’ 31st-ranked run defence got torn up, the Cowboys never got a lead, and Dallas turned the ball over in excruciating fashion.

Cooper Rush’s 354 passing yards were the second-highest in a game for the Cowboys this year, which is something to build off of. Rush connected with CeeDee Lamb eight times for 93 yards last week, but it was KaVontae Turpin who really flashed in the passing game with a 64-yard catch-and-run score. Tight end Jake Ferguson exited Monday’s loss with a concussion and did not practice Wednesday. On the plus side, cornerback Daron Bland (foot) was a full participant. Bland, who broke an NFL record with five pick-sixes last season, hasn’t played this year.

Washington Commanders

Adversity has hit Washington, and if they can’t respond this weekend it’s safe to say a fairytale ending won’t be in the Commanders future. Entering the season the Commanders had a win total of 6.5 and Super Bowl odds north of +10000. Eleven weeks later, Washington’s hit their win total over and their +4000 Super Bowl odds on Sports Interaction feel like a value pick.

Washington’s two straight losses have come against elite NFL defences and Jayden Daniels’ production as a result suffered. Daniels hovered around 200 yards in both losses, but should see his numbers soar against a porous Dallas defence. Despite the back-to-back losses, Daniels remains a -600 favourite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. Sunday can be that Heisman-type performance to solidify the award win, and legitimacy for the Commanders down the stretch.
