Colts vs. Jets Point Spread: NFL Week 6 Odds, Prediction
The first-ever meeting of the Colts and Jets franchises was one of the most important games in American pro football history. On Jan. 12, 1969 in Super Bowl III at Miami’s old Orange Bowl, the AFL’s Jets staged a massive upset of the NFL’s Baltimore Colts 16-7 behind a quarterback by the name of Joe Namath. That game essentially led to the AFL-NFL merger because the Jets showed their little brother league was able to compete with the big brother NFL.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Neither the Colts nor Jets have to worry themselves with Super Bowl dreams this year with Indy at 1-4 and New York 2-3. It’s the first meeting between the franchises since 2016 when the visiting Colts routed the Jets 41-10 on a Monday night. Andrew Luck threw for 278 yards and four scores. The Jets’ quarterbacks that night were Bryce Petty and Ryan Fitzpatrick, with both now long gone.
The Colts lead the all-time series 42-31 including playoffs. New York has covered five of the past seven. The total has gone over in five of those seven.
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts were without several injured starters last Thursday night and lost 38-24 at New England – Indy legitimately could have won its other three defeats this year but that one was never much in doubt. Luck had another big game with 365 yards and three scores, but he’s going to get killed if he keeps passing more than 50 times per game. He has already in three games because the Colts simply don’t have a running attack. Luck took some big shots vs. New England. His top receiver, T.Y. Hilton, missed that one with a hamstring injury and it’s not clear yet if he plays Sunday.
Linebacker Darius Leonard, who has been one of the league’s top defensive rookies, also sat with an ankle but is on track to play. Luck has lost one pass protector, though, with right guard Matt Slauson placed on injured reserve. Not clear when or how he was hurt vs. New England. The Colts are 2-7 ATS in their past nine vs. the AFC.
New York Jets
The Jets improved to 7-0-1 ATS in their past eight October games and 9-2 ATS in their past 11 at home with Sunday’s 34-16 rout of Denver, which was on a short week. The big star of that was running back Isaiah Crowell, who set a franchise record and NFL high this season with 219 yards rushing. His 14.6 yards per carry set a league record for a player with at least 15 attempts.
The Jets rushed for a shocking 323 yards, also a team record. You just never see that in the modern-day NFL. Sam Darnold threw two TD passes to Robby Anderson as New York stopped a three-game skid. New York is banged up in the secondary as cornerbacks Trumaine Johnson (quad) and Buster Skrine (concussion) are expected to sit vs. the Colts.
