Interestingly, the odds haven’t shifted, at least not yet. The Chiefs remain a -3.5 favourite.
Chiefs’ TE Travis Kelce and DT Chris Jones Will Play in Week 2
The Chiefs fanbase felt its heart in their throat on Tuesday of last week. With barely 48 hours to go before the opening Thursday night match against the Detroit Lions, superstar Travis Kelce injured his knee at practice. He was eventually ruled out of the Week 1 contest. Kansas City suffered a shock defeat, 21-20, thus putting them at 0-1 to start the defence of their Super Bowl championship.
Chris Jones hadn’t been a fixture at all this summer. He fought tooth and nail with the franchise brass for a better contract. He got what he wanted. The team agreed to pay him based on a number of incentives that, should he fulfill them, would reward Jones beyond the $19.5 million he was originally scheduled to earn.
Jones was a sack artist in 2022, compiling 15.5 during the regular season and another two in the playoffs. The importance of his inclusion in the KC defence is immeasurable.
If the Jacksonville Jaguars thought they were going to get a lighter version of the Chiefs, they need to guess again.
