Chargers vs. Eagles Point Spread: NFL Week 9 Odds, Prediction

Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles have done well to position themselves as the second-best team in the NFC East – but improving on that spot will require a much better performance on home soil as they welcome the Los Angeles Chargers to Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday. The Eagles have lost their first three games at home so far this season, and are modest underdogs against a Chargers side that has dropped two in a row.

The Chargers are 2-point favourites to win on the NFL odds, with a total of 50.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

It might not warm the hearts of Eagles fans’ hearts to see their beloved team once again getting points at home, but Philadelphia has been a great bet in this situation, having gone 6-2 against the spread with a pair of outright wins in its last eight as a home ‘dog. The Chargers, however, aren’t expected to go quietly, having gone 8-4-1 ATS in their previous 13 as a road favourite. And their last cover in that situation was a memorable one, as they routed Kansas City 38-21 last Jan. 4.

The Chargers are the overwhelming public choice here, with 84 per cent of Sports Interaction bettors giving the 1.5 points. The total trend is nearly as emphatic, with 78 per cent siding with the O50 at -110. That runs counter to Los Angeles’ 2-5 O/U mark for the season, and the fact that the Chargers are 4-1 to the Under in their past five vs. NFC East foes. Philadelphia is 4-4 O/U on the campaign, with Overs in four of its past six games overall.

Los Angeles Chargers

Say what you will about Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, but he has been one of the more consistent signal callers in football from 2020 to this year. He’s on pace to finish close to the 4,336 passing yards he amassed last season, and his 16-6 TD ratio isn’t far off of the 31-10 mark he posted as a rookie. One area of deficiency: the running game, where he’s averaging just 3.5 yards per carry with one touchdown (following 4.3 YPC and five TDs last season).

Philadelphia Eagles

Hurts appears to be the Next Big Thing among rushing quarterbacks – and that will make the Over on his Sunday rushing prop a popular play. Hurts has already had five games of 60+ rushing yards this season, and with 432 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, he’s the team’s leading rusher and scorer by a wide margin. The Chargers limited Lamar Jackson to 51 rushing yards in a Week 6 loss to Baltimore, but allow a league-worst 5.1 YPC.
