Broncos vs. Steelers Point Spread: NFL Week 5 Odds, Prediction
We may finally get to see where two of the most confounding teams stand after this Week 5 matchup between the Denver Broncos and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Denver started off 3-0 against teams with a combined record of 0-12 at the time but were dismantled by the Baltimore Ravens last week. Meanwhile, the Steelers had a major upset win over the Buffalo Bills to start the year, only to drop their next three games. Are the Steelers and Big Ben Roethlisberger cooked or can they get back on track here? We’ll find out soon.
Pittsburgh is a 1-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, with a total of 40.0.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Denver is 1-5 straight up in their last five road games when coming into the matchup as the underdog. Luckily, the spread has been more kind to them. The Broncos are 4-1 in their past five matchups overall. The under has cashed out in seven of the Broncos’ last nine games against opponents in the same conference, it looks good again as these two offences have struggled all year.
On the other hand, Pittsburgh is 0-5 ATS in their past five games played at home when coming in as the favourite. They are 0-5 straight up in their last five as the favourite as well. When playing teams with a winning record, the under has cashed out the last three times. All signs point to a low scoring game.
Denver Broncos
Teddy Bridgewater looks to be the quarterback for the foreseeable future but a recent concussion has his status in jeopardy. Drew Lock came in last week and completed just over 50 per cent of his passes with a late interception. Luckily, their backfield of Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams looked great against the Ravens. They will be leaned on heavily again if this offence has hopes of putting up more than seven points. The issue is that while Bridgewater was unspectacular, he was someone who avoided mistakes. Lock seems like a more boom-or-bust option, and busting would really hurt this team.
They do however have a stellar defence to give them some help. Von Miller is back to his former self and rookie Patrick Surtain has helped lock down their secondary. Even with last week’s loss, the Broncos are still allowing just 12.3 points per game. They should be able to keep a dysfunctional Steelers offence under wraps.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Everybody believes that Roethlisberger is officially cooked. He has the fourth-worst QBR in the NFL right now and the other three below him are all rookies. He came back to play one more season and hasn’t looked that good, throwing four touchdowns and four interceptions this year. While Ben has regressed, Pittsburgh’s offensive line has been absolutely atrocious. The only true positive of this offence is rookie running back Najee Harris, who averages 90 yards from scrimmage per game. With the offence struggling, Pittsburgh’s defence has slowly started to disappear as well. The last couple of games they have struggled to contain their opponents. Pittsburgh is in the same boat as Denver: they have to get some type of consistency from their offence or their solid defence gets hung out to dry. With the Steelers at home, they probably do enough to earn the win.
