Sam Darnold had a few promising games early, but New York has lost its past three, totaled just 33 points in them and Darnold is regressing.

If Sports Interaction bettors are looking for an offensive showcase in Week 10 of the NFL season, then Sunday’s Buffalo Bills at New York Jets matchup almost surely will not be your cup of tea. The opening total of 36.5 is the lowest of the year.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Neither the Jets nor the Bills are good this year, and it’s all about building for the future. Both clubs think they found their franchise quarterback in the 2018 draft. The Jets traded up to No. 3 overall and landed USC’s Sam Darnold, and the Bills traded up to No. 7 overall and selected Wyoming’s Josh Allen. Both have struggled in a big way, and it’s not clear if Allen will return from injury this week. Both guys are severely lacking in skill-position talent around them, but that should be addressed with high first-round picks by both teams again next April.

While Bills coach Sean McDermott should still be around to have draft input next spring, there’s little chance that Jets coach Todd Bowles will still be in his job. In fact, there’s a very realistic chance Bowles gets fired late next Sunday night if the Jets lose this game.

The Jets and Bills split last year. The underdog has covered in five of the past six in the series.

Buffalo Bills

It’s hard to say who the worst quarterback in modern NFL history is, but Buffalo’s Nathan Peterman has to be in the discussion and that’s not hyperbole. That guy is an interception machine who threw three more picks Sunday (yet another returned for a score) in the Bills’ 41-9 home loss to Chicago. Peterman only started because Allen has been out the past three games with an elbow injury and then Derek Anderson suffered a concussion on Monday in Week 8.

The Bills have been held to single-digit points in three straight games and five times overall. They are last in the NFL in scoring at 10.7 ppg and truly barren of any playmakers. How did this club make the playoffs last season? There’s almost no way McDermott can put Peterman out there again even if Allen and Anderson remain sidelined. Expect it to be newly-signed Matt Barkley if that’s the case.

New York Jets

Sam Darnold hasn’t thrown for more than 229 yards in the losing streak and has been picked off seven times in that stretch. Darnold leads the NFL with 14 interceptions overall and his rating of 68.3 is only better than … Allen, Anderson and Peterman (he has an impossible number of 30.7). Darnold figures to struggle again this week as the one thing Buffalo can do is defend the pass. It ranks third in passing yards per game allowed. This game isn’t going to be pretty.
