Bills vs. Commanders Point Spread: NFL Week 3 Odds, Prediction
After a disappointing Week 1 performance, the Buffalo Bills crushed the Raiders 38-10 in Week 2 and come into Washington with their offence firing on all cylinders. The Commanders are a bit of a surprise at 2-0 following last week’s 35-33 shootout win in Denver. Can the Bills bring Washington back down to earth when the teams meet on Sunday?
Buffalo is a 6.5-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, while the total is sitting at 43.0.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
As mentioned, the Bills have absolutely dominated head-to-head action in recent years. Buffalo is 8-1 straight up and against the spread in their last nine games against the Commanders. The teams haven’t met since Week 3 of the 2021 season. The Bills took that game 43-21 in Buffalo. Josh Allen led the Bills with 358 passing yards and four touchdowns, while Washington’s Taylor Heinicke (now a backup in Atlanta) finished with 212 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Buffalo is 1-1 both straight up and against the spread to start the season. They’re also 1-1 on the Over/Under. The Bills have started strong in recent years, going 11-4 SU in their last 15 September games.
The Commanders are off to a great start, going 2-0 SU and 1-1 ATS. They’ve evenly split the Over/Under in two games. Prior to this season, Washington was just 3-10 SU and ATS in their previous 13 September games.
Buffalo Bills
After a poor season-opener, Buffalo bounced back with a blowout win against the Raiders in Week 2. Allen went 31-for-37, finishing with 274 passing yards and three TDs. It was a solid turnaround following his one-touchdown, three-interception performance in Week 1. James Cook led the ground attack, rushing for a career-best 123 yards on 17 carries, while Damien Harris and Latavius Murray each ran in scores. Gabe Davis led all receivers with 92 yards and a touchdown on six catches.
Despite being on the road, the Bills should be comfortable this week. Over their last 20 road games, they are 14-6 SU and 12-7-1 ATS. Buffalo may, however, be forced to play without safety Micah Hyde and edge rusher Leonard Floyd against Washington. Hyde was limited to 16 snaps last week because of an ankle injury, while Floyd had to be helped off the field in the fourth quarter because of a hamstring injury. Both players have missed practice time this week.
Washington Commanders
The Commanders were resilient last week, digging out of an early 21-3 hole to successfully complete the second-biggest comeback in franchise history. Sam Howell went 27-for-39, finishing with 299 passing yards and two TDs in his third career start. Brian Robinson added 87 rushing yards and two TDs on the ground while Terry McLaurin and Logan Thomas each caught a touchdown pass.
It’s worth keeping mind that with last week’s win, Washington improved to 5-2 SU and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games as an underdog. One negative take away from last week is the status of Thomas, who left the game and did not return after taking a late hit following his touchdown reception. Thomas, who suffered a concussion on the play, has missed practice time this week and will need to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol to play on Sunday.
