Rookie Quarterback Jake Luton has made just two NFL starts, both of them losses, but both games have been covers.
I’m betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars this week. When re-reading that sentence out loud, it doesn’t exactly scream winning ticket, but hear me out on this one.
Is it me or does this Jaguars team seem rejuvenated under rookie Quarterback Jake Luton. The 24-year-old has made just two NFL starts, both of them losses, but both games have been covers.
Back on November 8, Luton threw for 304 yards including leading the Jags to 10 unanswered points in the second half of the game to fall just three points away from a victory. Last week they easily covered 14 massive points in Green Bay, dropping a 24-20 setback to the Packers. Yes, the Packers needed a fourth quarter touchdown from Davante Adams to knock off the 1-8 Jaguars.
The Steelers are the class of the NFL. Their 9-0 start is not only the best mark in the NFL, but the best start in the franchise’s history. However, in a couple of recent games, this team has played sloppy, still managing to pull out the win, but not the cover.
On November 8, the Steelers were heavy 14-point favourites to the lonely Cowboys in Dallas. The Cowboys were leading 19-9 in the fourth quarter, but a market correction by the Steelers saw the yellow and black score 15 unanswered points to win the game.
The Steelers will win this game, but this contest clearly screams letdown spot for Pittsburgh. Also, and this is big, the Steelers might be looking ahead to what’s on the schedule next week. Next week, in prime time, the Steelers host arguably their biggest rival, the Baltimore Ravens. Are they thinking about that game instead of this one, maybe?
NFL Week 11 Betting Two-Minute Drill
Not much history here between these two teams. The Steelers and Jaguars have played a grand total of three games since October of 2018 with the Jags winning two of three games. In the last game between these two teams (November 2018), the Steelers edged the Jags 20-16.
Overall, the Steelers are 1-3-1 against the spread in the last five games versus Jacksonville.
Bastl’s Bet: Jaguars +11
Will this be the Patrick Mahomes makeup game? The Raiders stunned the Chiefs at Arrowhead earlier in October, handing the defending Super Bowl champs their only loss of the season. Does history repeat itself? Prior to that loss, the Chiefs had won the previous five games against the Raiders. I’ll call a Kansas City win, but a Raiders cover.
For some reason the Ravens have been on a slide as of late. They have lost two of their last three games and question marks about the offence loom large. The Titans haven’t fared much better. They have lost three games all season, but all three setbacks have happened in their last four games. My determining factor? There are too many points on the board for a team that features Derrick Henry.
Bastl’s Bet: Raiders +7, Titans +6.5
