Bengals Extend QB Joe Burrow for Five-Years, $275 Million
Joe Burrow erupted onto the scene in 2020 as one of the biggest draft selections in the NFL. Although that season was cut short due to injury, the two campaigns since then have been nothing short of terrific. The Cincinnati Bengals obviously recognized that as they are going to pay him up to $275 million for another five seasons. The guaranteed amount is $219.01 million.
You guessed it. Those figures make him the highest-paid player in NFL history.
Burrow’s impact on the franchise cannot be overstated. The Bengals hadn’t won a playoff game in decades before his arrival. Since the 2021 season, they’ve won five and have played in a Super Bowl.
He’s the latest gunslinger to sign a massively lucrative contract with his current team this summer. Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles), Justin Herbert (Los Angeles Chargers), and Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens) will all be making unbelievable money throwing the football for years to come. The game of one-upmanship kept getting pushed to new limits, as each became, at least temporarily, the highest-paid player in the league.
Thursday was a big day for Bengals fans. Not only is their star QB healthy enough to play in Week 1, but he’s happy enough to play for their favourite team for another five years.
