AFC East Division: 2022/23 NFL Betting Preview and Predictions
The Bills are solid favourites on the NFL odds to win the division again.
Buffalo Bills 2022-2023 Betting Predictions
It’s really not difficult to pick an NFL division winner: Select the team with clearly the best quarterback and the vast majority of time that club will be the champion. The Bills have that by far in the AFC East in 2022 NFL MVP favourite Josh Allen. Buffalo has won the AFC East in back-to-back years only to run into Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the playoffs. Oddsmakers believe this is finally the season the Bills win a Super Bowl as they are +380 favourites. The defence got a boost in the offseason with the free-agent signing of future Hall of Fame pass-rusher Von Miller. Really the only question is whom the punter will be as the team recently had to cut the “punt god,” rookie Matt Araiza, due to some off-field issues from his San Diego State days. Buffalo is a -238 favourite to win the division and its favoured finishing position is first also at -238. As long as Allen stays healthy, the Bills will finish first. Their win total is set at 11.5 and we’ll go over (12-5).
Miami Dolphins 2022-23 Betting Predictions
The Dolphins selected quarterback Tua Tagovailoa at No. 5 overall in the 2020 draft and while Tua might still be a good player, that was clearly a mistake as Miami should have taken Justin Herbert, who went sixth and has become one of the NFL’s top QBs with the Chargers. This past offseason, the Dolphins tried to get both Tom Brady and Sean Payton and got penalized in a big way for tampering. Former 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel is the new head coach, and it’s a make-or-break season for Tua under him. The Fins got him some big-time help by trading for Chiefs All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill and signing Pro Bowl left tackle Terron Armstead. Miami is +415 to win the division and has a favoured finishing position of second at +155, and that’s where we lean. The team’s win total is set at 8.5, and we’re going over (9-8).
New England Patriots 2022-23 Betting Predictions
It’s dangerous to read too much into training camp/preseason performances, but by all accounts the New England offence has looked terrible transitioning from former coordinator Josh McDaniels to Matt Patricia/Joe Judge as play-callers – both those guys failed miserably as head coaches elsewhere and Patricia is a defensive guy, so why is he even calling plays? Expect a very conservative offence for second-year QB Mac Jones. The team got him some help at wideout in trading for Miami’s DeVante Parker and drafting Tyquan Thornton in the second round but Thornton is dealing with a fractured clavicle and will miss at least the first four games. Any defence under Bill Belichick is going to be good, but Pro Bowl cornerback JC Jackson left in free agency for the Chargers. New England is +469 to win the division and has a favoured finishing position of third at +138 – we agree. The win total is set at 8.5, and we’re going under (8-9).
New York Jets 2022-23 Betting Predictions
The Jets have finished with a winning record once since last making the playoffs in 2020, and that trend is going to continue. Second-year quarterback Zach Wilson hurt his knee in the preseason opener and probably misses at least Week 1 of the regular season – dinosaur Joe Flacco will start. New York has one of the Offensive Rookie of the Year favourites in second-round running back Breece Hall, but he’s expected to share time with second-year Michael Carter. Most expects loved the Jets’ 2022 draft with Hall and first-round picks Sauce Gardner, a cornerback from Cincinnati, and Garrett Wilson, a receiver from Ohio State. Offensive tackle Mekhi Becton, the No. 11 overall pick in 2020, will miss the season injured. The Jets are +2165 to win the division and their favoured finishing position is last at -244, which will happen. New York’s win total is set at 5.5 – we lean over (6-11).
