49ers vs. Seahawks Point Spread: NFL Week 2 Odds, Prediction

Sports Interaction Staff | Updated Sep 12, 2017

After an ugly outing in their opener, the Seattle Seahawks will look to bounce back in what – at least on paper – looks like a layup. They’ll host the San Francisco 49ers, who were walloped at home by Carolina. The NFC West rivals meet in Seattle on Sunday afternoon but will the Seahawks roll as expected?

Point Spread: Seahawks -13 Date: Sunday, Sept. 17, 5:25 PM ET Location: CenturyLink Field – Seattle, Washington

Point Spread And Betting Analysis

The betting line for this game opened up at -13 for the Seahawks at home. They’ve dominated this matchup in recent years, going 9-1 SU and ATS in their last 10 meetings with the 49ers. The last three matchups have had betting lines of -14, -10 and -11.5 for the Seahawks, and they have covered all but one, a 25-23 win in San Francisco last season in which they were -11.5 favorites on the road. Given the look of San Francisco’s offense in their loss to Carolina, this could reach two touchdowns by kickoff.

The total opened at 43. For this game before quickly dropping to 43 as some early bettors took the under. Six of the last 10 meetings have gone under the posted total.

San Francisco 49ers

The defense held their own in the 49ers’ 23-3 loss to the Panthers as they allowed 287 yards and forced a pair of turnovers. However, they were on the field for 34:21 because the San Francisco offense was terrible, to say the least. The 49ers ran for 51 yards as a team and gained 217 yards of offense while coughing up a pair of turnovers.

Now, Brian Hoyer and company have to face one of the top-three defenses in the league in Seattle on the road. The Seahawks are not happy about how they played in Green Bay and considering that they only scored three points last week, a shutout is not off the table.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle offense couldn’t get going in their 17-9 loss in Green Bay as Russell Wilson was 14-of-27 for 158 yards and had a crucial fumble. The defense tried to hold off the Green Bay offense as long as they could, but they were on the field for 39:13 and simply tired out as the Packers did what they wanted later in the game.

The Seattle offense can’t be that bad again and given the opponent, this could be a good rebound spot. Getting Thomas Rawls back in the lineup (he was out last week) should help them get the running game going and take some pressure off Wilson.
