The defending NFC champions look to get back on track after losing 24-20 to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1. They get a mouthwatering matchup against the New York Jets in Week 2, who not only lost to the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 but looked pathetic in doing so.

The Jets will also be without their best offensive player, Le’Veon Bell, who was just placed on IR with a hamstring injury that he suffered in the season opener. For the 49ers, this matchup is just what they need to get back on track.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The over is 4-0-1 in the 49ers last five games after an against the spread (ATS) loss and 4-1 in their last five after a straight up loss. To make it even better, the over is 7-3-1 in their past 11 games when coming in as the favorite. San Francisco is 4-0 ATS in their last four games on fieldturf and 5-1-1 in their last seven after allowing their opponent to pick up more than 350 yards in the game prior.

Meanwhile, the under is 4-1 in the Jets last five home games and 5-2 in their last seven games overall. Although, the over is 6-2 in their last eight games coming after an ATS loss. New York is 4-1 ATS in their past five games when coming into the matchup as the underdog but are just 1-6 ATS in their last seven September games.

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers were upset in their first game of the season against their division rivals in the Cardinals. However, division games are always a toss-up and there should be no worries about the 49ers heading into this game against the Jets. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, was able to put up 259 yards passing with two touchdowns and no interceptions, which is a solid day for a guy that was missing Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.

This offence is normally lead by their three-back committee, which now features Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon. Unfortunately, their running game didn’t get off to a very hot start and they found themselves down a few times last week, causing them to air it out a lot more than anticipated. Their best runner was Mostert who had 15 attempts for 56 yards. They should have no problem against a very weak Jets defence.

New York Jets

The Jets just don’t look like a good football team right now – especially after Bell was placed on IR. Quarterback Sam Darnold showed no signs of development, making multiple errors in the first half of their season opener including a very bad interception that set up Buffalo points. He was still able to throw for 215 yards and a touchdown but a good chunk of that was when the game was already decided. Their running game was also non-existent throughout that game with Bell getting six carries for 14 yards and Frank Gore getting another six carries for 24 yards. They have to get some type of rushing attack going so that Darnold doesn’t have to drop back and throw the ball every single play.

Their defence is towards the bottom of the pack talent-wise, so they can’t expect Darnold to put up a significant amount of points to win a shootout. If they want to give themselves a chance to pull off the upset, they need to dominate the time of possession and establish a great rushing attack early on. Otherwise, this game may be over quickly.
