Longest field goals in NFL history
There have been 37 field goals that have been 60 yards or longer in NFL history. Ravens star Justin Tucker holds the record for longest field goal. Tucker, who is the most accurate kicker in NFL history with a 90.2 career field goal percentage, cemented himself as one of the greatest kickers of all-time when he hit a 66-yard field goal to give Baltimore a 19-17 Week 3 victory in Detroit in 2021.
With the Over/Under for longest field goal in the regular season set at 65.5, it’s worth noting that there has actually already been a 66-yard kick in 2024. Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey matched Tucker’s record 66-yarder in Week 2 of the pre-season, but it doesn’t count in the record book because it wasn’t a regular season game. Still, that proves Tucker’s record isn’t safe.
Longest field goals kicked in 2023
There were five players who hit field goals of at least 60 yards last season. Arizona’s Matt Prater, who has the second-longest field goal in NFL history at 64 yards in 2013, topped the list last season with a 62-yarder.
Jake Elliott and Joe Slye each scored from 61 yards in 2023, while Brandon Aubrey and Harrison Butker both converted from 60 yards. Digging even deeper, 22 players had a season-high field goal of at least 55 yards in 2023.
Prediction
Call me a hater, but I’m taking the Under on a field goal of 65.5 yards in the regular season. Kickers have never been more accurate, but the longest field goal in each of the last two seasons has been 62 yards.
It’s also pretty rare a coach would attempt a kick from 60-plus yards. Going for a field goal from that distance requires a desperate team at the right time and weather plays more of a factor as the season goes on.
