Neville Gallimore 2020 NFL Draft Odds

There are a handful of Canadians currently playing in the NFL, probably the most well-known being offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, who is also a medical doctor. The Montreal native won a Super Bowl ring last season with the Kansas City Chiefs.

There will be at least one Canadian to soon join the NFL ranks during this week’s draft, which begins Thursday with Round 1. It will be held virtually due to the coronavirus. University of Oklahoma defensive tackle Neville Gallimore, who is from Ottawa, is given an over-under draft position of 32.5 at Sports Interaction. There are 32 picks in Round 1. The over is a -135 favorite, meaning that oddsmakers favour he will go 33rd or later.

Gallimore played at the Canada Prep Football Academy and was the first Canadian player ever selected to compete in the prestigious U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He has a terrific first-person story currently up on the Players Tribune. Gallimore picked Oklahoma over Alabama, Auburn, California, and Cincinnati.

The 6-foot-2, 305-pound Gallimore was named first-team All-Big 12 by the media last season for the Sooners and second team by the league’s coaches. He started all 14 games for OU and finished with 30 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, four sacks and two forced fumbles. Oklahoma reached the College Football Playoff semifinal and lost to top-ranked and eventual national champion LSU. Gallimore had three tackles in that game.

At the NFL Combine, Gallimore ran a 4.79 40-yard dash (seventh among all defensive linemen) and did 23 reps on the bench press. NFL.com gives Gallimore a grade of 6.00, which equates to “developmental traits-based prospect.” The site gives him a comparison of Quinton Jefferson, who was a fifth-round pick out of Maryland in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. He’s still in the league and had 26 tackles and 3.5 sacks last year for Seattle. The Buffalo Bills signed him to a two-year contract in free agency this off-season.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. projects Gallimore as a third-round pick. NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah ranks him as the No. 65 overall prospect. CBS Sports is more optimistic, ranking Gallimore as its No. 36 overall player.

“He can wear a lot of hats for you, he’s got a lot of talent,” said Kiper in a teleconference. “He’s a kid who’s powerful. He tested extremely well. This kid is an athlete. He can run like no other.”

Gallimore is +5000 to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. Defensive end Nick Bosa, the No. 2 overall pick last year by the San Francisco 49ers, won it last season. While Oklahoma has had several first-round picks recently, including back-to-back at the top in quarterbacks Baker Mayfield (2018) and Kyler Murray (2019), the school hasn’t had a defensive tackle selected since Stacy McGee was a sixth-round choice in 2013.
