The biggest event of the NFL’s offseason arrives this weekend with the 2019 NFL Draft from Nashville. Here’s a look at some of the Sports Interaction props available.
Music City Welcomes 2019 NFL Draft
The NFL Draft moves around these days and it’s being held in Nashville for the first time, beating out the likes of Denver, Kansas City, Las Vegas and Cleveland/Canton. Remember, only players three years removed from high school are eligible to declare. The hometown Tennessee Titans pick 19th overall in the first round (barring a trade). The first round is Thursday, with Rounds 2-3 on Friday and 4-7 on Saturday.
Quarterback Draft Odds
Like with any draft, all the hype surrounds the quarterback class. It’s not considered nearly as good as last year’s when five when in the first round: Baker Mayfield to Cleveland, Sam Darnold to the New York Jets, Josh Allen to Buffalo, Josh Rosen to Arizona, and Lamar Jackson to Baltimore. Mayfield and Jackson were former Heisman winners.
The 2018 Heisman winner was Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray, who originally planned to play pro baseball as a first-round pick last year by the Oakland A’s. However, Murray was so sensational with the Sooners that he’s going to make a lot more guaranteed money in his first NFL contract so he gave back his signing bonus to the A’s and is committed to football.
Murray is given an over/under draft spot of 1.5, with the under a heavy -500 favourite. It would be a mammoth surprise if the Cardinals don’t take him first overall even though they traded up to take Rosen No. 10 overall last year – he’s expected to be traded by Thursday night. New Cards coach Kliff Kingsbury ran an offense as Texas Tech that would fit Murray to a T, and he recruited Murray back in high school. It would be unprecedented, though, to draft a quarterback as short as Murray (5-foot-9 and change) in the first round. On the No. 1 overall pick prop, Murray is -700.
The over/under for total quarterbacks chosen in Round is 1 3.5, with the over a -225 favorite. Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins is going in the first round and actually most scouts like him better than Murray. Haskins is given an O/U draft spot of 10.5, with the under at -140 favourite. Missouri’s Drew Lock also is expected to be a first rounder. He’s also given an O/U draft spot of 10.5, with the under a -130 favorite. Thus, this prop likely comes down to whether Duke’s Daniel Jones joins them as first-day selections.
No school in the country hoards future NFL players like Alabama under Nick Saban. There’s a reason the Tide are in the College Football Playoff every year and are second-favourites at Sports Interaction to win another title this coming season.
There’s an over/under prop of 2.5 Tide players going in Round 1, with the over a -170 favourite. Two locks are defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and offensive lineman Jonah Williams (no relation). Whether it’s three players likely comes down to running back Josh Jacobs – it’s not a good running back class – or tight end Irv Smith Jr.
The strength of this class, at least in the first round, is on the defensive side of the ball, especially the front seven. For example, the top five rated players on the board of ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. are all defensive linemen or linebackers. The over/under for defenders going in Round 1 is 16.5, with the over a -170 favorite.
2019 NFL Draft Predictions
Murray is going No. 1. Go under on Haskins at 10.5 (we don’t project him in Top 10 in our mock but think a team trades up to get him) and over on Lock. Over on 2.5 Alabama first-rounders and over on 16.5 defensive players.
