Raptors vs. Jazz
Spread: Jazz -1.5
Date: Nov. 3, 9:00 PM ET
Vivint Smart Home Arena – Salt Lake City, Utah
Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Jazz opened as 1.5-point favourites on the Sports Interaction NBA odds board with the over/under line set at 196.
Utah is coming off three straight home wins with the most recent coming Wednesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Jazz are 5-3 straight up and 6-2 against the spread in their first eight games this season. They’re making sweet music at home with a perfect 5-0 mark both SU and ATS.
The Raptors got their doors blown off them at the hands of the Nuggets on Wednesday night. Toronto outscored Denver 40-26 in the fourth quarter and still lost by 18 points.
The good news is the Raps have had a lot of success against the Jazz in recent years. They’re 7-1 SU and 8-0 ATS in the last eight games between the two sides with outright wins in three of their last four trips to Salt Lake City.
Raptors
Outside shooting is a huge problem area for Dwane Casey’s club. Toronto, like most teams in the league, is shooting more 3s per game than ever, but the squad is second last in shooting percentage from distance at 30.7.
Fan favourite Norman Powell does a lot of good things, but he can’t stay on the floor next to DeMar DeRozan if he’s only knocking down 26 percent of his 3-point attempts.
Jazz
Utah lost its go-to offensive star, Gordon Hayward, to the Boston Celtics in free agency, but it has built a new identity around big man Rudy Gobert. The French 7-footer is a leading candidate to win defensive player of the year because of the way he controls the paint and challenges any and all attempts at the rim by opposing players.
The Jazz own the league’s third best defensive efficiency rating (points allowed per 100 possessions) at 96.3. It could be a long night for the Raptors slashing wings if they play on attacking the rack with Gobert waiting for them.
