Toronto Raptors Odds: Will Giannis Antetokounmpo become the next Kawhi Leonard?
Speculation surrounding Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to swirl after reports surfaced that he is seriously debating whether to stay in Milwaukee or chase a championship elsewhere.
The 30-year-old remains under contract through 2027 with a player option for 2028, but the NBA is a player-driven league, so he holds all the power when it comes to whether he wants to be traded and where he is willing to go.
With all that in mind, let’s take a look at a few of the top suitors for the Greek Freak.
Toronto Raptors
Toronto has been connected to Antetokounmpo for several years thanks to his connection with Masai Ujiri. And with the uncertainty surrounding Ujiri’s future at MLSE, he could be motivated to take a big swing while he still can.
The Raptors also signalled the rebuild is over when they traded for Brandon Ingram, so there’s no doubt Ujiri will take a shot at Antetokounmpo.
Toronto has several young roster players that would be attractive to Milwaukee and they still hold all their own first-round draft picks through 2031, but it could come down to the Bucks’ willingness to trade Antetokounmpo within the conference.
Ujiri pulled off a massive blockbuster that resulted in an NBA championship in 2019, so why can’t he do it again in 2025?
San Antonio Spurs
San Antonio has been rumoured to be on the hunt for Antetokounmpo for a few months now and you can see the appeal of pairing up the Greek Freak with Victor Wembanyama.
The Spurs also have the assets to pull off a trade for Antetokounmpo. San Antonio holds two top-15 picks in the upcoming NBA draft, including second overall, and they have a few young studs on the roster they could send to Milwaukee.
In my mind, the Spurs have the best pieces to make a trade like this work, but Antetokounmpo holds all the power in any potential move.
Houston Rockets
Another team in the Lone Star State, Houston, makes a lot of sense for Antetokounmpo.
The Rockets finished with one of the best records in the NBA during the regular season, going 50-32 to claim the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, however, a shocking first-round loss against Golden State could be a sign that this team needs to make a drastic change to the roster to have any sustained success in the playoffs.
Houston can offer multiple young pieces under team control for the next few years, the 10th overall pick in this year’s draft and multiple first round picks over the next several years, all of which could impact Milwaukee’s roster now and in the future.
