NBA: Toronto Raptors at Denver Nuggets

First to 120 is probably a good bar to set when the Toronto Raptors visit the Sacramento Kings Wednesday in a battle amongst two high-moving offences.

Both Toronto and Sacramento enter the day ranking in the top six in scoring this season, but it hasn’t translated to wins. It’s been “close but no cigar” for the 2-6 Raptors in several of their losses, while all three of the Kings losses has seen them surrender over 115 points and over 130 in two of the three. Ironically, Toronto was one of those 130-point teams when they beat Sacramento 131-128 in overtime last Saturday.

Wednesday’s the second of five straight outings on the road for the Raptors, who are quite banged up early into the season. Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, and Kelly Olynyk remain out for Toronto and while Quickley’s the only of the trio to have a chance to play Wednesday… the team is still ruling their starting guard doubtful to suit up at Sacramento.

Tip-off at Golden 1 Center goes at 10 p.m. EST with the Kings double-digit favourites on home court and the total nearing 240 on the NBA odds.

Raptors vs. Kings NBA Betting Odds

Being a heavy underdog has its perks, the Raptors are at least revealing. Toronto’s 7-0 run against the spread has them as much of a no-brainer pick as possible, and oddsmakers are again tempting the public to take the pesky Raptors on that +10.5 line. Toronto’s enjoyed some consistent success over Sacramento with wins in 11 of these teams’ last 15 meetings, including six of their last seven played in the “City of Trees.”

The main reason for the Raptors success ATS is their offensive output. With 119.4 points per contest, Toronto ranks fourth in the NBA. The flip side of that is Toronto’s dead last in the NBA with 125 points per game against. What does this all equate to? You guessed it, a 7-1 record to the over for the Raptors. I’m not saying what to do, actually I am — take Toronto on the spread and the over on the total.

Toronto Raptors

If not for a poor shooting night from R.J. Barrett, the Raptors probably would’ve started out this five-game road trip with a win at Denver. That’s the positive spin at least. The negative is the Raptors allowed over 120 points for their fifth-straight game and fell to 1-4 in that stretch. Gradey Dick tried his best to will Toronto to the win at Denver with a team-high 26 points, but the team fell short.

Four Raptors, include Barrett, went over 20 points last Saturday when Toronto defeated Sacramento 131-28 in overtime. Toronto shot 17 for 37 (45.9 per cent) from the three-point line in the win and Ochai Agbaji was the hottest shooter of them all, going 9-for-12 from the field and 4-for-5 from the arc.

Sacramento Kings

Sacramento’s key to winning this season is all in the defence, which surely, they’re learning. When the Kings allow under 100 points, they’re 2-0. When they allow 115 or fewer, they’re 4-0. When they allow over 115, they’re 0-3. The Raptors like to keep the pace high, which is why Sacramento needs to slow things down to keep things in their favour. But don’t kid yourself, the Kings can shoot almost any team off the court. In last Saturday’s 131-128 loss to Toronto, the Kings went 10-for-40 from the three-point line.

Former Raptor DeMar DeRozan is leading the Kings with 25.4 points per game, and De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis are alongside DeRozan as Kings players averaging over 20 points per night. All three should have no issue hitting that mark Wednesday.
