Philadelphia 76ers May Trade Up To Draft Andrew Wiggins
The Philadelphia 76ers already own the No. 3 and No. 10 picks in the 2014 NBA Entry Draft, but it sounds as though they won’t be satisfied unless they’re able to call Canadian Andrew Wiggins to the podium on Thursday, June 26.
It’s been well known that the Sixers have been very interested in the swingman from Vaughn, Ontario, just outside of Toronto. Word has it that Philadelphia has talked to Cleveland about a possible trade to obtain the No. 1 pick, which the 76ers would then select Wiggins.

It’s a bit of a tricky situation though. Many mock drafts already have Wiggins slipping to No. 3 anyway, with his former Kansas Jayhawks teammate Joel Embiid going first overall and Jabari Parker possibly going second in the draft. In that case, Philadelphia would be able to take Wiggins without any wheeling and dealing.
That’s a risky gamble, though. Milwaukee could easily choose Wiggins over Parker at No. 2, so the only way Philadelphia can ensure it gets its man is to trade for the top pick. Reportedly, the Sixers are willing to move their No. 3 pick as well as a player to make that happen, but won’t trade the No. 3 and the No. 10 picks to do so.
Philadelphia would be wise to stick to their guns in that scenario. For as much upside as Wiggins has, he’s not the consensus No. 1 pick that he was thought to be this time last year. Both Embiid and Parker are excellent prospects as well, but if the Sixers want to have the pick of the litter, they’re going to have to ante up.
That obviously means moving the third pick, but it’s what else they include in that package that will dictate whether this deal gets done. CSNPhilly.com’s John Gonzalez reported that Thad Young could be involved and that would make sense if he was shipped to Cleveland along with the No. 3 and a second-round selection.
As much as Philadelphia wants Wiggins, it can’t go overboard this far away from the 2014 NBA Entry Draft because in two weeks, that’s when all of these rumors will really heat up.
