Canada will be well-represented at this weekend’s NBA All-Star festivities and if you think Kyle Lowry and Andrew Wiggins are just along for the ride, you have another thing coming.

Wiggins, who hails from Vaughn, Ontario (just outside Ontario) will play in Friday’s Rising Stars Challenge, and is set as a +175 favorite to win the game’s MVP. Meanwhile, Kyle Lowry, the Toronto Raptors’ All-Star point guard is pegged as a +390 favorite to win the NBA Skills Competition, which tips off Saturday evening at the Barclays Center.

“This weekend is more fun,” Wiggins told reporters in Minnesota before leaving for the All-Star festivities. “Games here, it’s fun, too, but also a lot more physical, competitive and stuff like that. This weekend, I’m looking forward to it.”

Things have been looking up for Wiggins all year. He’s heads into the break averaging 15.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game and is currently set as the favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year. Those numbers are good enough to have many wondering if he should be playing in the real NBA All-Star Game on Sunday and also looking ahead to next year’s All-Star festivities in Toronto.

“That’s a dream of mine,” Wiggins said about possibly playing next year in Toronto’s All-Star Game. “That’s a goal, obviously. I hope I can make it happen. I just know it would be crazy.”

For now, he’ll have to be satisfied watching Lowry in the big game. Lowry’s numbers have turned a lot of heads too. He’s averaging 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 7.2 assists per night this season.

“Kyle’s an All-star, he has nothing to prove, we all wished him luck in there,” Raptors head coach Dwane Casey told reporters.

“He’s our all-star. He just has to play his game, play for his teammates. That’s the message going into the second half of the season — play for each other, play together and all the other accolades and wins will come.”
