The Raptors are quickly turning a season they were expected to tank into a legitimate shot at a play-in tournament spot after winning their fifth game in a row with a 106-82 rout of the NBA-worst Washington Wizards on Wednesday. One of the teams Toronto will need to leapfrog in the standings is the Chicago Bulls, who were blown out 122-100 in Boston on Wednesday.

The Raptors are 3.5-point favourites on the NBA odds, with the total pegged at 232.5.

Bulls vs. Raptors NBA Betting Odds

This is the second of four meetings between the teams this season. The Bulls took the first game 122-121 in Toronto on Dec. 16. The series will continue in Chicago in late February and early April. Chicago currently holds the final play-in tournament spot, so these games are massively important for both teams as the Raptors look to leapfrog the Bulls.

Toronto has been on a heater, winning and covering in five straight games. It’s a different story for Chicago, who have lost eight of their last 10 games and failed to cover in seven of their last nine.

Overall, the Raptors have been a much better cover option this season. Toronto is a solid 28-18-1 against the spread, while the Bulls are 22-25-1 ATS. The Dinos have been particularly profitable at home, going 17-7 ATS at Scotiabank Arena.

Both teams have played the Under in a slim majority of games this season. Recent trends point toward another low scoring affair on Friday. The Bulls have played the Under in six of their last seven road dates, while the Raptors have finished below the number in four of their last five games overall.

Chicago Bulls

Coby White returned from a four-game absence due to an ankle injury to lead Chicago with 16 points on Wednesday, but the Bulls never looked dangerous and trailed by double digit points at the half. Patrick Williams also finished with 16 points, while Ayo Dosunmu and Matas Buzelis each chipped in 12.

Chicago played without leading scorer Zach LaVine (personal reasons) against the Celtics and he’s also been listed as out against Toronto. LaVine could have played his last game for the Bulls as he’s expected to be one of the top targets for next week’s trade deadline. The 29-year-old is averaging 24.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game and could prove to be a strong third option for a championship-calibre team.

Toronto Raptors

Props to the Raptors for winning five straight games, but I’m going to rain on their parade a bit by pointing out that two of those wins came against the last place team in the Eastern and Western conferences and the other three dubs came against teams that sit outside of the top six in the Eastern Conference standings.

Now that I’ve sufficiently bummed out Toronto fans, I’ll get off the negativity train and focus on a good story. Scottie Barnes was recently named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week after averaging 22.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.7 steals and a block in wins over Orlando and Atlanta (twice). Barnes has been a big reason for the Raptors’ recent success in a season that has seen him average career-highs in points, assists, steals and field goals made per game.
